I love heading in to the centre of Málaga with the family and taking a leisurely stroll around the city’s centre and the new ‘Muelle Uno’ waterfront. Although a little cooler in the winter months, it still makes for a fantastic afternoon out! A few days ago we took a drive in to Málaga to experience the impressive and, now famous, Christmas light display and enjoy a quiet drink on the waterfront.
Here’s a summary of our afternoon… in photos!
Looks like all who saw in the New Year with us here at Sunset Beach Club had a great time! The restaurant team did a great job decorating the Oasis Restaurant for the occasion and ensuring that all guests had a fantastic New Year’s Eve experience; Shout out to the team in the kitchens who prepared some delicious food for the occasion!
This year we were lucky enough to get Ricky Lavazza to provide the entertainment for the evening and, as usual, he didn’t disappoint…Judging by the photos, there was a fair bit of boogieing going on!
Here’s a few photos taken during the celebrations:
A few days ago one of our colleagues from the commercial department, Inma, visited a unique and somewhat different Christmas nativity scene in Malaga… one made of plasticine!
The cultural department of Malaga’s town hall is exhibiting this nativity scene – created by the Educa Foundation – over the Christmas period. This wonderful 40 square metre exhibition is made up of more than 200 figures made of plasticine. Apparently they needed 35 kilos of plasticine and three months of hard word to put this masterpiece together.
As you can see in the photos, the attention to detail is unbelievable and certainly breaks the molds of the more traditional Nativity scenes! Read More→
All our guests and anyone living on the Coast are more than welcome to come and join us for a fantastic evening of delicious food, live music, dancing and a drink or two!
We’ll be starting off the evening with a cocktail reception at 8:30pm followed by a 5 course gala dinner and live music. This year we’ve got a special treat as we’ve got one of the Coast’s top entertainers to provide the entertainment for the evening: Ricky Lavazza! Those of you who have stayed with us before will know Ricky well as he is a featured artist here at Sunset Beach Club all year round. Read More→

Our guests often ask us for recommendations on things to do at this time of year so we’ve decided to put together this list which includes activities and specific places you can visit during the holidays. Although the title of this post specifically states Benalmadena, you’ll find that out list wanders a little further down the Coast; that being said, all of these places are well connected by public transport. If you’re planning on visiting the Coast this Christmas I’m sure you’ll find something of interest on the list. Here goes…
#1 Visit one of the many tradition Christmas Markets on the Coast . You’ve got two nice markets here in Benalmadena but a trip to Malaga’s city centre is also highly recommended as they too have a popular market.
#2 Selwo Marina is open form the 22nd December 2012 to the 6th January 2013 and offers a great day out for all the family. With a spectacular Dolphin show and the only Penguinarium in Andalucia, it’s definitely one to put on your list.
#3 Time to head in to Málaga city centre and see the impressive Christmas light display. You can get the train from Arroyo de la Miel straight into the centre of Málaga; easy and cheap! Well worth a visit! Read More→
Last wednesday the staff at Sunset Beach Club celebrated their Christmas Party.
The theme this year was ‘Las Vegas’ and there were some great fancy dress costumes on parade (see photos below), but perhaps the funniest and most entertaining part of the evening was the talent show. Colleagues from various departments prepared a short show and performed in front of everyone on the stage of the Moonlight Bar; and what a performance… they all did brilliantly… great costumes, great choreography and all round great fun!
The paparazzi were there to take photos throughout the night and below we’ve added the first lot we’ve managed to get our hands on… more to come!
Take a peek and see if you can recognize anyone
It’s not often that we post offers here on the Sunset Beach Club Blog but this one is so good that we just had to write about it!
With the golf season on the Costa del Sol in full swing (excuse the pun) we’ve teamed up with our sister resort, La Cala Golf, to put together an unbeatable last minute offer for the rest of this month of December and for January 2013.
For just €235 per person (based on double occupancy) you can enjoy a 4 night golf break which includes the following:
- 4 nights accommodation at Sunset Beach Club including full buffet breakfast
- 3 rounds of golf at La Cala Resort (3 golf courses) including buggies
- 4 days car hire
The town of Mijas is famous for its whitewashed buildings, picturesque setting overlooking the Coast and, of course, its donkeys! These distinctive attributes have made this beautiful town a favourite destination for tourists who visit the Costa del Sol and wish to experience the charm and beauty of a traditional SpanishVillage.
Well, things are about to get even more traditional as the Town Hall has just released plans to make Mijas even more beautiful by introducing hanging plant pots to the exterior of buildings along 26 of the streets in the town’s historic centre.
The installing of plant pots in the exterior of buildings is very traditional in certain areas of Andalucia; the famous patios of Cordoba are a perfect example. This new ‘makeover’ is sure to be a big hit amongst tourists and locals and will help to maintain Mijas’ position as ‘must-visit’ destination for all who travel to the Costa del Sol.
The pots will be painted in vivid blues and greens which against the whitewashed walls of the buildings will represent the colours of the Mijas Flag. At the moment there are approximately 400 hooks installed for holding the plant pots but this figure will soon be increased to 1000, an impressive number for such a small town!
According to the towns planning councillor, Manuel Navarro, the plant pots will be filled with geraniums, ferns, adelfas and other aromatic species such as rosemary and lavender which will undoubtedly create some spectacular photo opportunities, not to mention the incredible scents and aromas
There is no doubt that this new initiative is set to reinforce Mijas’ position and reputation as a true Andalusian White Village. We hope you’ll get a chance to head up into the hills and see this new ‘makeover’ for yourselves!
