Benalmadena Pueblo Hosts its Annual Arab Market

Arab Market in BenalmadenaFrom Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th August, Benalmádena Pueblo (the old town) will host the 7th edition of its Arab Market (Zoco), an event that this year, returns to the town’s summer cultural programme. 

The Arab Market will take place in the following locations throughout the town: Plaza de las Tres Culturas, Plaza de España; in the Real and Santo Domingo de Guzmán streets and in the ‘Jardines del Muro’. Benalmadena Pueblo Tapas  RouteFrom the 17th October to 26th October, visitors to Benalmádena Pueblo will be able enjoy a delicious assortment of tapas as the town celebrates its 7th annual Tapas Route. 

Twenty of the town’s bars and restaurants will be taking part in this gastronomic event which has become one of the main culinary, cultural and touristic attractions for the town during the lower autumn season.

New Tourist Train to Benalmadena Pueblo

IMPORTANT UPDATE (Sept 2015)…. This train service has been cancelled until further notice!

Those of you who have visited Benalmadena will be familiar with the small ‘hop on, hop off’ tourist trains which ferry passengers around the Marina and the central area of Arroyo de la Miel. Well, in the next few weeks, the company that runs these trains will be introducing a new service taking tourists and visitors to Benalmadena Pueblo, located in the hills overlooking the coast.

If you’ve never been to Benalmadena Pueblo, this is the perfect opportunity to visit this stunning and picturesque village. The new tourist train service will leaves from the Alay Hotel (approx. 30 minutes walk from Sunset Beach Club) at 9:30am every morning. Continue Reading →

Next week sees the start of the 6th edition of Benalmadena Town’s popular Tapas Route. From the 18th to the 27th October, many of the Benalmadena’s bars and restaurants will take part in this gastronomic event which every year produces some mouth-watering creations!

The establishments which take part in the Tapas Route will have to prepare a special tapa designed only for this event. This way visitors will be able to make their way around the town following the ‘route’ and trying a different and unique tapa in each bar and restaurant; just make sure they are officially taking part in the event. Castillo de Colomares

The ‘Castillo de Colomares’ (ColomaresCastle) in Benalmadena is one of the most interesting tourist attractions the municipality has to offer. It’s not really a castle, it’s more of a monument which was built between 1987 and 1994 by Esteban Martín MD as a tribute to Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America.

This unique monument unifies various architectural styles which had a marked effect on Spanish culture: Bizantine, Romanesque, Arabic and Gothic.

A walk around the Colomares Castle will allow you to discover various elements from the symbols of the Catholic Kings, from the three cultures present in medieval Spain (Judaism, Christianity and Islamism) and other elements from Christopher Columbus’ epic voyage.  Continue Reading →
