The ‘Fiesta de la Bicicleta’ (Bicycle Party) in Benalmadena: A Fun Day Out For All the Family

Fiesta de la Bicicleta en Benalmadena Next Sunday the 24th April Benalmadena will host the 33rd edition of its popular ‘Fiesta de la Bicicleta’ or Bicycle Party, one of the city’s oldest and most emblematic events in its busy sports calendar.

It’s not a race. The whole event is designed to be a fun family day out, fitting in perfectly with Benalmadena’s image as an idyllic destination for tourism and sports.

At the event’s press conference the mayor of Benalmadena, Victor Navas, pointed out that he and his team have made a strong commitment to promoting the city as the perfect destination for sports and tourism. There are even plans to create a cycle lane which will run from Torremolinos to Fuengirola along the old N-340 coast road; an amazing addition to Benalmadena’s tourism infrastructure which will help attract new visitors looking for a more active holiday mixed with the superb weather we enjoy in this wonderful part of Spain. Sunset Beach Club Raises 10,136 Euros in Aid of 3 Amazing Childrens Charities

Concert for the Kids Charity ChequeFor the last two years, Sunset Beach Club hotel – and guests who visit – have been actively supporting three children’s charities: The Butterfly Children Charity (Debra Spain) which helps children with EB, a condition which makes skin as fragile as a butterfly wing;  Make-a-Wish Spain which grants magical wishes to children fighting life threatening medical conditions and Barretstown, a unique camp that provides medically endorsed residential programmes of therapeutic recreation for children with cancer and other serious illnesses. The local Hindu community have worked in conjunction with the Benalmadena Town Hall to prepare a fun and authentic event which is open to everyone. On Friday 8th April 2016 we’re delighted to be hosting, what we hope, will be the charity event of the year, our ‘Concert for the Kids’ featuring two of the Coast’s most popular entertainers: Johnny G. and Ricky Lavazza!

As two of our resident performers here at Sunset Beach Club, Johnny and Ricky have agreed to help us raise funds for our ‘Sunset Breaks’ charity initiative which we started in 2014.

Mijas Village Relives the Napoleonic Invasion

Recreation of the napoleonic invasion of Mijas PuebloThis weekend – 10th & 11th October – the village of Mijas will be recreating the Napoleonic invasion of 1808, a historic event when the villagers had to defend their homes from Napoleon troops.

Mijas Town Hall has been organising this event since 2009 together with the Torrijos 1831 Cultural & Historic Association; its uniqueness has certainly increased its popularity since then!

To add a little more flavour to the events, this year, the local artisans and business associations have decided to contribute to the activities by putting on an Artisans Market offering all sorts 19th century themed goodies including: soaps, crystal and glass products, leather goods and Mexican jewellery which, in those times, were shipped to Spain from the New World. The Luna Mora Festival in Guaro: A Weekend of Music and Culture

Festival de la Luna Mora de GuaroThis weekend – from the 11th and 12th September – the picturesque white village of Guaro celebrates the 19th edition of its famous ‘Luna Mora’ Festival.

This year’s festivities have been reduced to two days (It’s usually four) but they’ve still managed to put together an impressive programme of events with activities and entertainment for all the family.

Throughout the weekend, the village becomes a meeting point for traditional Andalusí music and culture. The streets come alive in the evenings with the stunning illumination of 25,000 candles strategically positioned to create a unique and magical ambiance.
