The beautiful white village of Mijas is getting ready for another edition of its International Festival; however, this one is special as it is the 25th anniversary.
Organised by the foreigners department of Mijas Town Hall, this fun 3 day event is a must-see for anyone visiting the Costa del Sol next weekend. More than 20 countries and nationalities take part in this festival which includes music, dancing, delicious foods from all over the world, street performers, giant BBQ’s, handcrafted goods, special performaces (see below) and general all round fun! Every week, our Entertainment Team carry out cooking lessons for guests who are interested in learning how to make traditional spanish dishes like paella or tortilla. This week I decided to film their cooking skills; it was time to make a Paella!
The actual lessons take place in a make shift kitchen set up by the pool area and as you can see in the video, many of the guests stop by and watch; we are not sure whether the free glasses of wine and chance to taste the finished product have anything to do with this!
I noticed no-one took notes(understandable seeing as they are only in swimwear ;-)) so I decided to make the video into a step by step guide of how to make the paella. As always, last week’s San Juan celebrations attracted great crowds of all ages and nationalities to the beaches of Benalmadena. The atmosphere of the night really is something exceptional, barbeques sizzling, waves crashing, fires crackling and the unescapable buzz of chatter and laughter all along the coastline. The only downside to the festival is that it only happens once a year! However as San Juan finishes it marks the start of Benalmadena feria week. Paloma park, located in the centre between Arroyo de la Miel and the coast, is home to Benalmadena’s “Recinto Ferial” (Main fairground). If you’ve been on holiday here before you may already know this area as it is home to Benalmadena’s weekly market and carboot sale. The fair runs every night for one week and is a great night out for the whole family with plenty of rides, stalls and kiosks.
Unsuspecting guests may have mistaken Wednesday’s wedding for a children’s birthday party! Lisa and Jez didn’t want a formal bash but instead wanted their day to be as relaxed and truly enjoyable as possible, not just for themselves but for all of their guests, especially the younger ones! After getting married in Gibraltar the couple that live locally here on the Costa del Sol travelled back to the Hotel where they greeted guests with a cava and canapé reception followed by gala dinner and then after party. The bride pulled out all the stops when it came to decorating the banquet room, brightly coloured balloons, assorted chair ribbons and incredible amounts of sweets and chocolate on every available surface, not to mention the cake! Words can’t describe, so hopefully this picture does the trick, a fantastically fun day was enjoyed by all!
Yesterday was another day of non-stop fun for the Pirate’s club! Pirate’s day is always very popular, which is hardly surprising with such great activities and entertainment staff! Another Pirate’s day will be held tomorrow, so make sure your kids enjoy the funfilled day during their holiday!
