Toy Collection for the Children in the Oncology Ward

puzzles and games

The puzzles Sunset Beach Club will be donating

With Christmas creeping up on us, we are reminded that this festive season is a time for giving… At Sunset Beach Club we take pride in collaborating with local charities and helping those in need and this Christmas we have chosen a very special cause…

The Málaga Tourist Board has organised a toy collection campaign amongst its employees, members, collaborators and friends and as Sunset Beach Club is a member, we are happy to take part in this fantastic initiative.

The toys collected will be given to children (aged 1 to 14 years) who are undergoing treatment in the Oncology Ward of the Hospital Materno Infantil inMalaga. All this will be done through AVOI, aMalagabased charity which, thanks to the wide range of activities they organise, makes these children’s stay in hospital a little less traumatic.

The most appropriate toys are all those which are educational in nature such as puzzles, colouring books, books with stickers, soft toys, colouring sets and other similar gifts.

Sunset Beach Club will be donating 51 puzzles and games and many of the staff have brought in toys to contribute to this fantastic cause.

Nobody deserves to be in hospital during the Christmas holidays, much less young children; this is our way of helping bring a smile to their faces during this difficult time.

If you’d like to contribute to the charity by donating toys for the children of the Oncology Ward (it doesn’t have to be anything fancy) you can leave them at the “Patronato de Turismo” offices in Málaga (Plaza del Siglo 2) from Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm; Thursday the 22nd December is the last day!

The toys will be delivered to the Oncology Ward on Christmas Eve 🙂

Come and Join Us for the 2011 Walkathon in Aid of Cudeca

Cudeca Walkathon 2011Mark the date in your calendars: Sunday 15th May, 2011. Once again, Sunset Beach Club will be heavily involved in the sponsorship and organisation of the Cudeca Walkathon, the annual fundraising event which aims to raise funds for the Cancer Care Hospice in Benalmádena.

So what exactly happens at the Walkathon? It’s basically a sponsored walk; you need to get your friends and family to sponsor you for every kilometre you walk (or run!) and then head down to Sunset Beach Club on Sunday the 15th May – sign up starts at 9:30 am – and complete as many laps of the circuits as you can!

There will be 3 different routes or circuits to choose from: 10km for the super fit and sporty; 5km for those who enjoy a good brisk walk; and the 2km walk, specially adapted for children and for disabled participants in wheelchairs.

There is a registration fee for all participants: 10€ for adults if you pre-pay (12€ on the day) and 6€ for children. Obviously, organisers are keen to encourage participants to obtain sponsorship for every kilometre walked; there will be fantastic prizes for the participants who raise the most sponsorship funds! Sunset Beach Club Collaborates with The National Golf Club Challenge

National Golf Club ChallengeWe’re very pleased to announce our collaboration with the National Golf Club Challenge which will take place in the UK on the 4th and 5th June 2011.

The idea for The Challenge was born out of a desire to assist the Help for Heroes charity in the UK.  Set up in 2007, the charity helps wounded soldiers returning home from combat.

The National Golf Club Challenge allows golfers throughout the UK to come together on one specific weekend and combine their love for golf with a show of support for injured service men and women. The idea is that participating clubs hold their own charity golf day (4th & 5th June 2010) to raise funds for Help for Heroes (last year over 400 clubs took part in the challenge!). Each club that participates will then return their top ten stableford scores from their challenge day; these scores will count as the club’s official aggregate score. The six top scoring clubs in the UK will then battle it out at a spectacular two day final event.

The main aim of the challenge is to raise funds for the Help for Heroes charity; however, participating clubs will also have the chance to compete for the coveted National Golf Club Challenge Trophy; the Lee Westwood Cup.

Top teams will also have the added incentive of being able to win some great prizes, all donated by participating partners. This is where Sunset Beach Club and our sister resort La Cala have collaborated; donating a one week stay at Sunset Beach Club and 3 rounds of golf for 10 golfers.

This years challenge – the first ever – was an astounding success. To date, organizers have managed to raise 202,273 pounds and counting! So that’s the target to beat for the 2011 event…… we’ll certainly continue to support this remarkable initiative.
