Gliding through La Paloma Park in Benalmadena<\/p><\/div>\n

You\u2019ve probably seem them gliding through the streets of your local town or at least on television but, do you know what they are? The Segway personal transporter is actually the first ever self-balancing, electric-powered transportation device. It may look like a simple two wheeled electric scooter but, it is much more than that!<\/p>\n

The Segway works through a concept called Dynamic Stabilization which enables it to work seamlessly with the body\u2019s movements. So how on earth does it do that? Well, the Segway has built in gyroscopes and tilt sensors which monitor a rider\u2019s gravity at about 100 times a second. This means that when the rider leans slightly forward, the Segway moves forward; likewise, when they lean back, it moves backwards. Pretty simple isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n

These vehicles have a multitude of uses: the police in Torremolinos use them for patrolling the streets and I have seen security guards use them in commercial centres. However, one of the latest trends is using the Segway to tour a city or specific area.<\/p>\n

We now have a company based in Benalmadena Port which offers fun tours of the town riding one of these unique vehicles. There are various different tours on offer:<\/p>\n

    Watching the video might lead you to think that riding a Segway might be a little dangerous; nothing could be further from the truth. The Segway\u2019s balancing technology is truly revolutionary and provides a unique and exceptional riding experience. Each unit has sophisticated alerts built into its design; however, it\u2019s important that riders understand their responsibility to ride safely. Proper skill levels prevent injuries caused by loss of control; that\u2019s why all tours \u2013 or glides, as they are often refered to \u2013 begin with a 30 minute training session before setting out and seeing the sites of Benalmadena.<\/p>\n
