Next Friday the 12<sup>th<\/sup> August 2011, the city of M\u00e1laga celebrates its yearly \u201cFeria\u201d (Fair) in which citizens and visitors indulge in good old fashioned fun: Dancing, singing, drinking (in moderation!), eating all contribute to making this one of the most popular festivities in all of Andaluc\u00eda, if not Spain.<\/p>\n<p>Originally established to commemorate the re-conquest of the city by Isabella and Ferdinand in 1487, the \u201cFeria de M\u00e1laga\u201d boasts an average yearly attendance of 3 million people! (That\u2019s some party ;-)).<\/p>\n<p>The fair officially starts on Friday 12<sup>th<\/sup> August at midnight with the \u201cPregon\u201d (opening speech) which is usually carried out by a famous personality; this year the honour falls on local singing sensation, Pablo Albor\u00e1n. Following the \u201cPregon\u201d there will be a firework display and a free concert with Pablo Albor\u00e1n. All the above takes place on theLa Malagueta beach.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>\u201cFeria de Dia\u201d (Day Fair)<\/h3>\n<p>Saturday the 13<sup>th<\/sup> August is the first full \u201cferia\u201d day; the fun begins with the \u201cFeria de d\u00eda\u201d or Day Fair which takes place in the city centre. The Calle Larios and surrounding streets are the place to be from around midday until the early evening (around 7pm). Expect lots of singing and dancing \u2013 you\u2019ll probably end up joining in \u2013 as well as some great tapas, wines and sherry (referred to as \u201cfino\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Although you can expect warm temperatures &#8211; light clothing is highly recommended &#8211; \u00a0the town hall has installed special canopies over the Calle Larios in order to provide some protection from the scorching August sun!<\/p>\n<h3>The Night Fair<\/h3>\n<p>After the madness of the day fair, the fun continues at the \u201cReal dela Feria\u201d, the main fairground located on the outskirts of the city, next to the Malaga Exhibition Centre. Here you\u2019ll be able to enjoy the rides at the fun fair &#8211; a must-do if you have kids \u2013 and the traditional \u201ccasetas\u201d where you will experience the best of flamenco singing and dancing. Throughout the whole week, the town hall has also organised over 200 free concerts which encompass a wide selection of musical styles and disciplines.<\/p>\n<h3>Not to be missed\u2026<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The \u201cRomer\u00eda\u201d \u2013 The traditional horse parade where hundreds of beautifully dressed fair-goers ride through the Malagueta area of the city on their horses and carriages, each decorated with beautifully coloured flowers and ribbons. This year, it takes place on Saturday the 13<sup>th<\/sup> August.<\/li>\n<li>Bullfighting \u2013 The Malaga Fair attracts some of the biggest names in the industry and every day, theLa Malaguetabullring hosts spectacular bull fights that will thrill all who attend.
