\"La<\/a>If you\u2019re a nature lover and enjoy a little peace and tranquillity (at least once in a while) during your holidays, we highly recommend you visit the \u2018La Concepcion\u2019 Botanical Gardens in Malaga.<\/p>\n

Located just north of the city centre, these vast and spectacular gardens are now part of the \u2018Ciudad de Malaga\u2019 (Malaga City) Municipal Botanical Trust.<\/p>\n

A walk through its colourful gardens will allow you to enjoy an exquisite collection of plants and flora from all over the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A Little Background and History\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Botanical Gardens were created more than 150 years ago by the Marquis of Loring and his wife who \u2013 whilst travelling around the world \u2013 brought back exotic plants and flowers from places such as China, Australia, the Pacific and South America.<\/p>\n

The wealthy Echevarr\u00eda-Echevarrieta later purchased the property and extended the gardens adding large collections of palms and other trees.<\/p>\n

In 1943 ‘La Concepcion’ was officially declared a historic and artistic garden and finally, in 1990, was bought by the Malaga City Council. After extensive renovations and modifications, the gardens were officially opened to the public on the 21st<\/sup> June 1994.<\/p>\n

The \u2018La Concepcion\u2019 Botanical Gardens are enormous \u201349 hectares to be exact \u2013 but don\u2019t worry, there are five recommended routes (some accessible in wheelchair) all well sign posted which will help you discover the most fascinating corners of the gardens; it all depends on how much time you have!<\/p>\n

These are the 5 recommended routes:<\/p>\n

  1. The Jewels of La Concepci\u00f3n<\/strong>\u2013 If you\u2019ve never been to La Concepcion, this is probably the best route for you as it takes in the most important areas of the historic gardens. It\u2019ll take you approximately 1.5 hours to complete this route.<\/li>\n
  2. Themed Gardens\u2013<\/strong> On this route you\u2019ll see a diverse selection of plant life such as bamboo, palms and aquatic plants; You\u2019ll need 2 hours to get around.<\/li>\n
  3. Around the World (in 80 trees)<\/strong> \u2013 You\u2019ll get to see trees originating from 5 different continents.<\/li>\n
  4. TheViewpoint Route<\/strong>\u2013 In just under an hour you\u2019ll enjoy slightly \u2018different\u2019 and elevated views of the Botanical Gardens.<\/li>\n
  5. The Forest Route<\/strong>\u2013 An hour\u2019s walk will take you through areas which are rich in local flora and offer spectacular views over the \u2018Montes de M\u00e1laga\u2019 Natural Park.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The \u2018La Concepcion\u2019 Botanical Gardens also have lakes, ponds, streams and cascades surrounded by an impressive selection of flora and vegetation such as black bamboo; did you know this plant grows at a rate of 1cm per day?<\/p>\n

    Around the gardens you\u2019ll also find a large number of strategically positioned benches from which to enjoy the magic and tranquillity of this unique setting.<\/p>\n

    Tuesday to Sunday:\u00a0\u00a0 9:30am to 8:30pm from 1st<\/sup> April to 30th<\/sup> September<\/p>\n

    9:30am to 5:30pm from 1st<\/sup> October to 31st<\/sup> March<\/p>\n

    Adults – \u20ac5.20<\/p>\n

    Children (6 to 16 years) and pensioners – \u20ac3.10<\/p>\n

    There are also discounts available for groups of more than 20 people as well as the possibility of guided tours (fee applies).
