\"ListDid you know that, every year, almost seven million people choose Spain as a holiday destination because of the gastronomy<\/strong>? That\u2019s a massive 12% of the 60 million visitors Spain welcomes each year!<\/p>\n

A recent article in the travel section of one of Spain\u2019s largest newspapers (abc.com) \u2013 using data from a Jetcost<\/strong> survey \u2013 revealed some interesting facts about the gastronomic preferences of travellers who visit the country, in the form of a top 10 list.<\/p>\n

So what do you think was number one on that list? Well, you might be surprised to find out that the world-famous \u2018Paella\u2019<\/strong> doesn\u2019t hold that coveted position; that honour goes to Spain\u2019s most famous export\u2026 \u2018Jamon Serrano\u2019!<\/p>\n

The Mediterranean diet is well known for its health benefits and Spanish cuisine includes an abundance of fresh produce including vegetables, fish and olive oil. Whilst the \u2018Top 10\u2019 list below might include one or two items which are difficult to categorise as food (Sangria being the obvious one) it does paint an interesting image of visitor\u2019s favourite Spanish foods.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the list:<\/p>\n

  1. Jam\u00f3n<\/strong> (We assume it refers to \u2018Jam\u00f3n Serrano\u2019).<\/li>\n
  2. Paella<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Tortilla de Patatas<\/strong> (Spanish Omelette).<\/li>\n
  4. Olives\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n
  5. Patatas Bravas<\/strong> (Fried potato squares served with a spicy mayonnaise sauce).<\/li>\n
  6. Calamares<\/strong> (Squid, and probably refers to the deep fried rings found in most Chiringuitos).<\/li>\n
  7. Langostinos<\/strong> (Prawns).<\/li>\n
  8. Ensaladilla Rusa<\/strong> (Potato Salad\u2026 and nothing to do with Rusia!).<\/li>\n
  9. Churros <\/strong><\/span><\/a>(The traditional, and quite delicious, breakfast treat accompanied by hot chocolate).<\/li>\n
  10. Sangr\u00eda<\/strong> (Not really a food, unless you consider the fresh fruit included in the jug, but still delicious!)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Whilst we tend to agree with many of the foods and dishes included in the above list, we thought it would be interesting to ask some of our guests what their favourite Spanish food is.<\/p>\n
