Considering the number of visitors passing through its doors during the opening weekend – more than 6000 people – the museum’s success is practically guaranteed.

The new Pompidou Centre offers a unique itinerary which takes visitors on a voyage of discovery through art of the 20th and 21st century. Approximately 90 works of art, selected from the Pompidou Centre’s outstanding collection, line the walls and halls of ‘The Cube’.

Renewed after two and a half years, the collection will also be complemented with two or three temporary exhibitions every year.

The centre’s exhibition halls house works of art by leading figures if modern and contemporary art, including Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, Alberto Giacometti, Max Ernst, Frida Kahlo or Marc Chagall. Their work explores a multitude of different artistic disciplines: Painting, fotography, design, architecture and even video!

Here’s a quick taster of the works of art you’ll see on your visit to ‘The Cube’:

An impressive video installation by Pierrick Sorin. Titled ‘It’s really nice’, this masterpiece is made up of 32 screens where visitors can watch human portraits which are constantly changing.

‘El Marco’ (1938), a work of art by Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo.

The museum’s opening hall has a stunning central piece: Pablo Picasso’s ‘Cabeza de Mujer’.

Kader Attia’s ‘Ghosts’ is, perhaps, the most spectacular piece of art in the museum; it’s made up of 150 sculptures made from aluminium foil.

Even a visit to the museum’s restrooms includes a unique modern art experience. Tony Oursler’s ‘Switch’ offers a peculiar experience in which a visit to the gents means encountering a flashing red light and a series of negative audio phrases. The ladies are welcomed with a green light and slightly more optimistic phrases. 🙂

The whole Pompidou experience is transmitted through multi-disciplinary programs dedicated to dance, performance, conferences and film, together with projects specifically designed for younger audiences.

Opening hours of the Pompidou Centre

From 9:30am to 10:00pm, including bank holidays.

Special opening times from 15th June to 15th September: from 11:00am to 10:00pm.

Closed on Tuesdays.

Price of entrance tickets

Combined entrance (permanent and temporary exhibitions): 9€ for a standard ticket and 5.5€ for the reduced one.

Permanent exhibition: 7€ for a standard ticket and 4€ for the reduced one.

Temporary exhibition: 4€ for a standard ticket and 2.5€ for the reduced one.

The unemployed, under 18’s, holders of the ‘joven euro’ card, Art and History of Art university students and teachers, museum employees and members of ICOM are allowed to enter for free.

Every Sunday afternoon (from 4:00pm to 10:00pm) entrance is free for everyone.

How to get to the Pompidou Centre in Malaga

From Sunset Beach Club, the easiest way to get to the centre of Malaga is by taking the nº M110 bus which stops just outside the hotel.
