Rules for travelling to most European countries have changed.<\/p>\n\n\n

From 2025 (Probably the second half of the year)<\/s>, From the end of 2026 (The start date has been delayed again until the new EES<\/a> has been properly introduced), travellers from more than 60 visa-exempt countries (see image below to see if your country is included) will need to have a special travel authorisation, a valid ETIAS, (European Travel Information & Authorisation System)<\/strong> to enter 30 European countries for a short stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The ETIAS is linked to your passport and, once issued, it is valid for up to 3 years or until your passport expires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you have a valid ETIAS, you can enter any of the 30 European countries requiring the authorization as often as you want for short-term stays and holidays (normally for up to 90 days in any 180-day period).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please bear in mind that having the ETIAS is not a guarantee of entry to these countries. On arrival the border guards will check your documentation to make sure you meet the requirements for entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As your ETIAS authorisation will be linked to your travel document, you must make sure that you have this same document with you when you travel or else you will not be allowed on board the plane, bus, train or boat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do I apply for an ETIAS?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You can fill out the application form on the official ETIAS website<\/a> or use the ETIAS mobile app. You\u2019ll have to pay \u20ac7 and the application should be processed in minutes (although it could take longer to process).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once processed you\u2019ll receive an email confirming your application and containing your unique ETIAS application number which you must keep with you for future reference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
