Earth Day

1. Earth Day is celebrated annually around the world as a reminder of the harm that mankind is doing to the planet, and to improve awareness about the steps that we can take in everyday life to reduce our carbon footprint.

Earth Day Countdown

1. In the days before Earth Day, we are doing an awareness campaign to share information about all the things we are doing at Sunset Beach Club on a daily basis to Save the Planet, as well as giving guests and visitors to our website ideas on how they can also help the cause when on holidays, and also throughout the year at home.

Earth Day at Sunset Beach Club - Throughout the year we include Eco Activities for children in the kid's club, but on Earth Day we will dedicate the whole morning to creating awareness about these important causes. On 22nd April, our activities team will host two special Eco Activities throughout the morning, and all family members are welcome to participate:

1) Water Management Awareness

What we do in the hotel

1. 1. • Guests can choose how frequently to change towels and sheets > to reduce usage of water.
      • Aerators on taps + partial flush systems on the toilets help reduce consumption in apartments.
      • We don’t use wasteful sprinkler systems anymore. We irrigate our green spaces with highly focused drip systems.
      • Reduction of green spaces to reduce need for watering.
      • Project to plant more environmentally-friendly Mediterranean plants which require less water.

      What you can do to help

      1. Install low-flow fixtures on showerheads, faucets and toilets.
      2. Aim to take shorter showers and turn water off while soaping or shampooing.
      3. Turn the tap of when brushing your teeth, shaving or doing the washing up.
      4. Wash full loads of laundry to maximize efficiency.
      5. Choose plants that require less water.
      6. Collect rainwater for watering plants.
      7. Encourage everyne in your household to be mindful of their water usage.

2) Electricity Consumption & Management

1. 1. What we do in the hotel

      • Photovoltaic Solar Panels for generating our own electricity.
      • Changed lighting to LED whenever possible.
      • Keycard system in all apartments to ensure electricity is switched off when you are not in the room.
      • Project to install sensors on balcony doors to automatically switch off airconditioning when they are open.

1. What you can do to help

   • Swith to LED bulbs
   • Always turn off lights when leaving a room.
   • Avoid ‘Phantom’ energy consumption by unplugging chargers and electronic appliances when not in use.
   • Invest in energy-efficient appliances witih a good Energy Star Rating.
   • Use programmable thermostat to adjust the temperature when you’re not home.
   • Lower the temperature of your water heater to save energy (Set to 120ºF or 49ºC).
   • Wash clothes in cold water and air dry clothes instead of using a dryer

3) Recycling

1. 1. What we do in the hotel

      • We have waste recycling points throughout the hotel.
      • We recycle all paper (see video of paper and cardboard recycling)
      • We recycle all our office consumables (printer cartridges, batteries, etc)
      • Used items from apartment (fridges, toasters, microwaves, light bulbs, etc) are all recycled working in collaboration with local authorities and charities.
      • Things that can be reused rather than recycled are donated to the Remar Charity (They sell them to raise money for important local social projects).

   • Sort and separate Paper, Plastic, Glass, Metals and Organic waste.
   • Reuse plastic containers for storage or gardening.
   • Repurpose glass jars for storage.
   • Donate working electronics to charities or schools.
   • Donate used clothing to thrift stores or charities.
