Last Year's Winner - Carl Mason
This weekend, La Quinta Golf and Country Club hosts the Benahavis Senior Masters; this is the second year that the tournament is held in La Quinta.
The professional tournament takes place over three days (15th to 17th October) and will be preceded by a two day Pro-am where amateurs will have the opportunity to play alongside some of the best golfers on the Seniors Tour.
With a prize fund of €180,000, the tournament has attracted some of the top names on the tour. Last year’s winner, Carl Mason, will be joined by golfing legends such as Ian Woosnam, Sam Torrance or Constantino Rocca.
The courses designer, ex Ryder Cup player Manuel Piñero will also be playing in the tournament – I would think this gives him a slight advantage over the rest of the field!
La Quinta Golf and Country Club is located in the picturesque municipality of Benahavis, renowed for the beauty if its location, its gastronomy and of course, its fantastic selection of top class golf courses.

Ecological Tricycles in the streets of Málaga
Most tourists who visit the Costa del Sol take the time to visit its main city, Málaga. With its museums, cathedral, monuments and parks, the city is a required stop for all those keen to take in a bit of culture.
Until now the way to see the city was either by bus (guided tour) or on foot; however, for those not so keen on wearing out the soles of their shoes, there is an alternative, and its ecological; enter the new tricycle taxis. (more…)

Sardines Anyone?
The Costa del Sol is famous for its “Pescaito” (Fish Dishes) with many restaurants and beach bars (chiringuitos) offering a wide selection of fresh fish dishes – boquerones, calamares, Sardines…… –
For many, sitting at a nice little “chiringuito” enjoying some fish and a cool beer or “tinto de verano” is the highlight of their holiday! In that case, you won’t want to miss the Fiesta del Pescaito in Benalmadena this weekend!
From the 8th to the 12th October, all the beach bars and restaurants on the Santa Ana Beach (next to the windmill statue) will be serving all sorts of fish dishes at discounted prices. For example, all plates of fried fish (calamares, boquerones, etc) will cost just €4.50 and all plates of shell fish (prawns, lobster, clams, etc) can be purchased for €7; drinks such as beer and wine will be available at €1.50 per glass.
The reason for these discounts is that the local Business Association of Santa Ana decided to organise this “Fiesta” as a way to mark the end of the summer season. They held a similar event in June and it was a great success with many locals and holiday makers making the most of the great prices to enjoy some traditional “Pescaito”.

Steve Payne and Capi Breccia
Last Saturday evening, our Moonlight Bar here at Sunset Beach Club was the venue for some fantastic live blues music organised and produced by Active Sound Productions.
Those who made it down to the hotel for the concert were treated to an evening of great live music, albeit by two very different acts; Steve Payne and the Johan Wahlstrom Band.
First up on stage was singer and composer, Steve Payne, regarded by many as one the UK’s finest guitarists (and he didn’t disappoint!). With only his guitar and accompanied by Argentine Saxophonist, Capi Breccia, Steve delighted the crowd with his unique style of guitar and distinct voice. The video below shows clips of Steve Payne’s performance. (more…)

Poster for the Fuengirola Fair
This Wednesday sees the start of the Fuengirola Fair. Lasting a total of 7 days (from the 6th until the 12th October) the fair will be the perfect excuse to take in some traditional Spanish culture – and have some great fun whilst you’re at it –
The fair takes place in the “Recinto Ferial”(Fair Ground) which is situated in the centre of the town and has easy access either by bus or by train.
The Fuengirola fair has a something for everyone: a wide selection of rides for children and adults as well as the traditional “casetas” where you can enjoy a nice glass of wine and a tapa of “jamón Serrano” whilst you listen to typical flamenco music. If you are feeling in the spirit, you may even want to have a go at the “Sevillanas”, the typical dance for these occasions.
These are some of the highlights of the fair that might be interesting:
Saturday de 9th October
- The Virgen del Rosario Equestrian Show in the main fair ground.
- Top grade Bullfight with some of the best names; El Cordobés, Francisco Rivera and El Fandi
- Evening Concert – Lolita (daughter of the famous Lola Flores)
Sunday 10th October
- Bullfight on Horseback. (If you’ve never seen this before, this is really worth watching)
Monday 11th October
- Children’s Party with Clowns, face painting and balloons.
- Special Children’s evening with all fair rides at 50% of normal price (If you have kids, this will save you a fortune!)
If you’d like some more information or would like to buy tickets for the bullfights, just ask at our Leisure Desk and they be able to fill you in on all the details.
