Julio musical en las noches de MálagaThe city of Malaga is getting ready to host, for the 4th year running, a fabulous series of summer evening concerts. This latest edition, of what has become a consolidated event in the city’s summer events calendar, will delight spectators with a series of free music concerts to be held in the Gibralfaro Castle and the Alcazaba fortress.

The Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra, musical ‘ensemble’, ‘Músicos Concerto Málaga, Duo del Valle, The Insostenible Big Band, Coral Cármina Nova and Música Prima, will be performing in two of Malaga’s most iconic land marks. 

All concerts are free of charge but you need to register beforehand and there will be a draw to determine who gets tickets. This year’s series of concerts pays special tribute to two great writer: Cervantes and Shakespeare and will include a much more extensive programme than last year’s event.

The series of concerts start on Firday 8th July in the Gibralfaro Castle (Plaza de Armas) and ends on the 30th July in the same setting.

Here’s the official programme for ‘Musical July’ concerts:

Friday 8th July 

The Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by Josep Vicent, will offer a concert featuring musical classics such as ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev. The following soloists will also be performing: Marisa Martins (Soprano), Gerardo López (Tenor) and Isidro Anaya (Baritone).

Friday 15th July

The piano duo made up of brothers Victor and Luis del Valle, Dúo del Valle, will perform a concert which includes music from Mozart, Mendelssohn, Ravel and Gershwin.

Saturday 16th July

The ‘Coral Cármina Nova’ will perform a repertoire dedicated to Shakespeare with music from Morley, Bennet or Dowland as well as a tribute to Cervantes with works from Francisco Guerrero, Juen Vázquez or Diego Ortiz.

Thursday 21st July 

Concert by musical ensemble ‘Músicos Concerto Málaga’ with music by Teleman, Boccherini, Turina, Granados and Albéniz amongst others.

Friday 22nd July 

Concert by ‘Música Prima’, a group of musicians who specialise en repertoires which span from medieval to Latin American Barroque and who will offer a programme which will represent the works of composers such as Juan del Encina, Johannes Cornago or Juan Arañés.

Saturday 23rd July 

The ‘Insostenible Big Band’ presents a programme called ‘Such Sweet Thunder’, a tribute to the unforgettable Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn with music inspired in ‘Lady Macbeth’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’ as well as a repertoire of Jazz and Swing.

Saturday 30th July 

The Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Arturo Díaz Boscovich, will play various pieces including music by Gurudi and Bernstein.

Please note that, although the concerts are free, this year entrance tickets will be allocated by a draw as there are strict capacity limits in each of the venues. The procedure to get your tickets is as follows:

  • You need to request your tickets at the Archivo Municipal (On the main Alameda, nº23) on the 30th June and 1st July from 9:00am to 2:00pm and 4:00pm to 8:00pm and on the 4th July from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Each person can make one request per concert. You can also request tickets by email from the 30th June to the 4th July writing to aytocultura@malaga.eu indicating the concerts you’d like tickets for, your full name, contact phone number and Passport ir ID number.
  • The Draw will take place on the 5th July. The list of winner will be published on the Archivo Municipal notice board and on the following website: www.cultura.malaga.eu. There is a maximum of 2 tickets per person.
  • To collect your tickets you’ll need to go to the Archivo Municipal in Málaga on the 6th and 7th July from 9:00h to 2:00pm and 4:00pm to 8:00pm and on the 8th July from 9:00am to 2:00pm.
