Malaga Celebrates its ‘White Night’ (La Noche en Blanco): 6 Hours of FREE Culture and Entertainment

White Night - Noche en blanco Malaga 2012

Malaga is getting ready to celebrate the 5th edition of its ‘White Night’ (La Noche en Blanco) cultural event. Last year the Costa del Sol’s capital was flooded with just over 200,000 visitors who flocked to experience some of the activities and entertainment on offer during this unique evening.

Unfortunately, this year the event has been hit by the economic crisis and will suffer an important 50% reduction in its budget. Although the overall investment in the event wont reach €60,000, the mayor of Malaga, Francisco dela Torre, has publicly stated that the program for this years event will be more ambitious and will offer more spaces and activities.

Just a quick reminder that during the ‘White Night’ all activities in the official program are free! If you’re interested, you’ll have to head to Malaga on the evening of the 12th May between 8:00pm and 2:00am. (more…)

Photos & Video of the Cherry Boppers Concert in the Moonlight

Last Saturday (5th May) the Bilbao based Cherry Boppers presented their new album in the Moonlight Theatre.

We didn’t want to miss it and were there to take a few photos and video clips of the show! (See below).

The Cherry Boppers’ powerful live show and unique mix of funk, jazz and rock made for a fantastic evening of entertainment; hopefully they’ll come back again for their next album launch 😉

Don’t Miss the ‘Super Moon’ this Weekend!

Super Moon 2012This weekend we’ll have the chance to witness a phenomenon known as a ‘Super Moon’.

Super Moons are larger and brighter than usual and are caused by the shape of the Moon’s orbit which is actually an ellipse, or oval, shape. The Moon orbits our planet once each month and during this time reaches a point farthest from the Earth (an apogee) and a point closest to the Earth (a perigee); the latter is what we will experience this Saturday the 5th May 2012.

This will be the biggest full moon of the year – about 16% brighter than average – and will create larger than normal tides. Apparently, at perigee, the moon exerts approximately 42% more tidal force than when it’s at apogee!

Experts say that the best way to view this weekend’s Super Moon – the one that will get the best effect – is to look out for it just after it rises, when it’s close to the horizon. If you can manage to get the moon behind buildings or trees, an optical illusion will make it look even bigger!

If you’re staying with us at Sunset Beach Club, we recommend you grab a spot on the terrace of our Panorama Bar or head down to the promenade and watch the ‘Super Moon’ from there. Don’t forget to take some photos and post them on our Facebook Page 😉

Selwo Aventura: A True Wildlife Adventure for all the Family

Cheetah at Selwo Aventura

Many of our hotel guests are often on the lookout for new and exciting activities and attractions when they come and stay with us. One of the most popular attractions is the Selwo Aventura wildlife park. I actually visited the park with my family recently so, for the benefit of those of you who have yet to visit this amazing location, here’s an account of our fun day at Selwo Aventura.

Located in the hills near the coastal town of Estepona, Selwo Aventura is approximately one hour’s drive from Sunset Beach Club. Although it might seem a little far to some, it’s well worth the drive!

Parking is easy as there is a large area just in front of the main entrance to the park. Once you’ve collected your entrance tickets it’s time to experience the magic! The park is split into four main areas or routes for you to visit, so I’ll give you a brief summary of what you will find in each and give you a few tips as to things you’ll want to see 🙂 (more…)

Beatles Tribute Band, The Silver Beats, Rock the Moonlight [Photos & Video]

The Silver Beats - Beatles Tribute

The Silver Beats

Last night the Moonlight Theatre rocked to the sound of local Beatles tribute band, the Silver Beats. This is the first time this fantastic band form Málaga have played at Sunset Beach Club; however, judging by the audience response to their Beatles rendition, it won’t be the last!

Formed 17 years ago, The Silver Beats play songs from the ‘Fab Four’s’ early years influenced by 50’s rock and roll tunes from the United States and when they started composing their first – now classic – songs.

As you can see from the photos and the videos, the Silver Beats put on a great show. Not only do they look the part – even their instruments are all original replicas – but their unique mix of voice, guitar riffs and great rhythm made for a great evening of entertainment. (more…)

New Bus Service from Malaga Airport to Benalmádena

Bus from Benalmadena to Malaga Airport

IMPORTANT UPDATE (October 2014): The bus service from Malaga Airport to Benalmadena has been cancelled indefinitely.

UPDATE: From the 1st May 2013 the airport bus route will be extended and will reach the Holiday World Hotel Complex. Timetables are still not available but we will put them up as soon as they are.

We’ve got some great news for all those of you who travel to Benalmádena regularly but don’t particularly like to fork out €27 (each way) for a taxi from the airport to your hotel of choice (hopefully Sunset Beach Club ;-)). We started using www.taxiwizard.com.au it helps us save a ton of money.

The local bus company (Avanza Portillo) has just started an all new service (nºM128) which will run daily between Benalmádena Costa and Malaga airport. If you’re staying at Sunset Beach Club, the bus stops right outside the hotel – well… almost – so it’s really handy and will allow you to save quite a bit of money. (more…)
