Friday sees the start of the 3rd edition of Natura Malaga, a trade fair dedicated to healthy living and sustainable development. Last year, this very same fair was extremely successful, attracting over 5000 visitors; this year organisers expect to exceed this figure as they have enabled more showroom areas and presentation space (almost double).
Who is the show for? The theme of the trade fair as well as the excellent content of the workshops and activities programmed, make it a must for all professionals working in the “eco” or Bio” industries. The Show is also ideal for anyone who uses eco-friendly services or products; people who are passionate about our planet and its natural resources.
This year’s Málaga Natura Trade Show presents new activities and workshops: Presentations, PNH displays and areas devoted to a wide range of products and services for everyone who wants to lead a more fit and healthy life.
If you are interested in local London healthy food, natural cosmetics, sports, diet, training, natural medicine (find here https://www.ukmeds.co.uk/treatments/weight-loss/alli-orlistat-60mg/), London based osteopath healing practices, natural and alternative therapies or rural tourism and sustainability, you are really going to enjoy the wide variety of stands and workshops available. Here’s a brief outline and description of some of the workshops and presentations available during the show:
• massage and naturopathic techniques (osteopathy, Shiatsu, Reiki)
• Workshops physical (Naturaula) (Yoga for kids, Pilates for physical restoration)
• Practical workshops on Yoga
• Children’s workshops (Recycling, Water Care, Food, Environment)
• Informative Presentations on naturopathic techniques (How to use Feng Shui to improve our health and welfare)
The Natura Malaga Trade Fair will be held in the Exhibition and Congress Centre of Malaga and will be open to the public from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
As many of you will know, we will soon be opening our new beach Club: Luna Beach. Refurbishment work is going well and we’ll be looking to open to the public very soon!
Yesterday, I spent a few minutes talking to Sander Klomp, the latest addition to the Sunset Beach Club team and the new Manager for our beach club operation (Luna Beach and Salitos Bar). Here’s a brief recap of our conversation:
Sander isn’t a very Spanish name…where are you from?
I’m actually from Holland.
How long have you been in Spain?
I moved here just over 2 years ago. I’ve been living in the Estepona and working in the area surrounding Sotogrande and Alcaidesa
What’s your background and can you tell us a little about where you’ve been working before joining Sunset?
I studied hotel management in Maastricht and then spent the next seven years working in various F&B positions within the hotel and catering industry. (more…)
Mark the date in your calendars: Sunday 15th May, 2011. Once again, Sunset Beach Club will be heavily involved in the sponsorship and organisation of the Cudeca Walkathon, the annual fundraising event which aims to raise funds for the Cancer Care Hospice in Benalmádena.
So what exactly happens at the Walkathon? It’s basically a sponsored walk; you need to get your friends and family to sponsor you for every kilometre you walk (or run!) and then head down to Sunset Beach Club on Sunday the 15th May – sign up starts at 9:30 am – and complete as many laps of the circuits as you can!
There will be 3 different routes or circuits to choose from: 10km for the super fit and sporty; 5km for those who enjoy a good brisk walk; and the 2km walk, specially adapted for children and for disabled participants in wheelchairs.
There is a registration fee for all participants: 10€ for adults if you pre-pay (12€ on the day) and 6€ for children. Obviously, organisers are keen to encourage participants to obtain sponsorship for every kilometre walked; there will be fantastic prizes for the participants who raise the most sponsorship funds! Our neighbouring town of Fuengirola is getting ready to celebrate its “Feria Internacional de Los Pueblos” (International Peoples Fair). This unique event dates back to 1994 and was started as a way to showcase the different customs, folklore, gastronomy and cultural, historic and tourist attractions of the inhabitants of this multicultural town.
As from next Friday the 29th April and up until the 2nd May, visitors and locals alike can head down to the local fair ground in Fuengirola and enjoy the multitude of stands; there are more than 30 different countries represented at the fair!
Visiting the Feria Internacional de Los Pueblos is like travelling around the world in just 4 days! All five senses will be at work as you experience the following:
The sounds of the traditional music of each culture, played by authentic groups which, in many cases, have actually flown in from their country of origin.
The amazing smells and aromas from the different food posts where visitors can taste traditional argentinian “parilladas” (barbecues), delicious Moroccan pastries, exotic Asian dishes and traditional foods from around Spain.
Traditional dances with their typical colourful costumes.
At each stand, visitors to the fair will have the chance to purchase typical products from each represented country and even obtain specific tourist information about the country or area being promoted.
Entrance to the “Feria” is free and we thoroughly recommend you take a trip down to this fascinating fair and enjoy a fun- multicultural- day of music, dancing and delicious food!
Guests who visited Sunset Beach Club last year would have had the chance to experience an evening of magic and illusions at our Moonlight Bar. Every week, the “Urban Magic Show” delighted kids and parents alike.
Well, we’ve got good news for you: This year, Jose Manuel (AKA Jose 13) is back with a new show full of new tricks, illusions and pure magic! Imagine (Name of the new show) has been designed to be highly interactive, aiming to keep the audience involved and on their toes at all times; definitely a fun evening for all the family!
“Imagine” is a free show for all guests of the hotel – non residents are welcome, but will have to pay a small entrance fee – and starts at 10:30pm every Thursday evening.
Stay tuned as I will be posting photos and video footage of the new show in the next few weeks!
Since last year, we’ve been keenly following the progress of the young group of budding footballers who make up the “Peña Los Compadres” team in Marbella. Why? The easy answer to that is because we sponsor the teams training kit (see photo).
Things in the local league haven’t gone as well as they could have, with a mid-table 7th position. We are; however, pleased to report that three of the team’s star players have been selected to represent Malaga province in the upcoming Andalucian Championship for provincial teams which will be held in La Herradura, Granada on the 5th, 6th and 7th of May.
León, Sergio Esteban and John have had to undergo gruelling trials – nine to be exact – before making the final team. All that hard work has now paid off and the youngsters are looking forward to, what will undoubtedly, be a very entertaining and competitive tournament.
The Málaga team are in a tough group playing against Sevilla, Granada and Cordoba – Sevilla won the tournament last year and Granada have the home advantage. The second group is made up of Cadiz, Jaen Almería and Huelva, with Cadiz probably the favourites to go through to the finals – But the guys in the Málaga team are confident that they can give them a run for their money! We certainly wish them all the best for the tournament.
Sergio Esteban (Centre of the photo) has actually done some training this season with Sevilla FC and even made their team for an earlier tournament in Mallorca. John (on the right) has also been training with Colchester United and played for them in a couple of matches at the University of Essex. Some future stars in the making?
This weekend sees the official start of Semana Santa (Holy Week); Towns and cities all over the country – especially in Andalucia – celebrate this Easter week with a profound devotion and passion. If you’ve never attended one of the amazing processions, I highly recommend you make an effort to experience it – at least once – you won’t regret it!
What Exactly Happens in Holy Week?
Good question. We won’t go into the intricate details and history of these religious festivities here; what I will tell you is that it’s a time where Christians show extreme devotion to their faith.
The highlight of Semana Santa is the processions. In Andalucia, most towns and cities will have a series of processions which take place throughout the week; starting on Palm Sunday and continuing until Resurrection Sunday.
If you really want to experience the traditional Semana Santa, we recommend you visit Málaga: thousands of locals and tourists line the streets to watch the different “cofradías” (brotherhoods) parade their impressive “Tronos” (Thrones) through the city. Some of these impressive structures weigh up to 5000 kilos and need 200+ men to carry them! Routes can last up to eight hours with each man carrying an equivalent of 25 or 30 kilos on their shoulders during this time: that’s devotion! (more…)
If you are walking around Benalmadena this week – especially 24 Hour square or Puerto Marina – you might be forgiven for thinking you are in another country: Portugal to be exact!
Over 3000 portuguese students have chosen Benalmadena for their end-of-term trip; great news for the town as it means the occupation of more than 1500 hotel rooms in 14 different hotels, one of which is Sunset Beach Club!
We’ve only got a small group of 45 students staying with us, and to be honest, we don’t even see them as they are out all day taking part in the fantastic organised activities during the day, and experiencing some Benalmadena night life until early hours of the morning!
The trip has been organised by a Portuguese tour operator (Slide-in Travel) and during the whole week that they are here, there are tons of fun activities for the youngsters – all are aged between 17 and 22 – for example: paintball, games on the beach, go-karting, trips to Tivoli World, Selwo and Isla Mágica in Seville, and a Sunset Boat Party, to name but a few!
Here’s a great video of last year’s trip to Benalmádena: looks like they had fun!
A couple of weeks ago, Rocio, Raul and Patri, from our entertainment team, made the most of a weekend trip to London. Apart from taking in many of the more traditional tourist attractions, the team had an alterior motive for their trip: They had booked tickets to see two of London’s top musicals.
It is not uncommon for visitors to the capital city to want to watch one of the many amazing shows on offer; however, Rocio and the team were very keen to see “We Will Rock You” and “The Lion King”.
Why? Because those are going to be the tribute shows they will be preparing for this summer’s entertainment programme at Sunset Beach Club!
The Lion King.....
Guests visiting the hotel this summer season will be able to enjoy both of these shows (dates are yet to be confirmed) which will be performed weekly at the Moonlight Theatre.
The team is busy rehearsing for the shows and preparing all the costumes and wardrobe; I’ll try and sneak in to one of their rehearsals to give you a quick preview of what to expect……stay tuned for more information!
