A couple of weeks ago, staff from our sister resort of La Cala challenged us to a football match; the venue for the big game was to be the amazing grass football pitch facilities at the La Cala Golf Hotel! (more…)
Here’s a short video I took as I spotted some clients taking scuba diving lessons in the main pool here at Sunset Beach Club; it was a little overcast so they had the pool to themselves!
Scuba diving season has officially started and we are lucky enough here at Sunset Beach Club to have our very own dive centre on site! Run by Scuba Tours, one of the longest running dive organisations on the Costa del Sol, the team of qualifies instructors are available to answer guest queries about their fantastic selection of excursions and PADI courses.
Apart from initial lessons in our pool, guests who sign up for an excursion can experience an entry level dive at a site that is within a few steps of the hotel. Those who are looking for a little more adventure can choose from 15 different dive sites situated along the Coast, including reefs, wrecks and caverns!
There’s something for everyone. Guests can choose from the following:
Day Excursions (Beginners and advanced)
PADI Courses (From beginner to professional level)
Special Kids Programmes (from 8 years of age)
For more information about Scuba diving lessons and excursions, pop into the “dive shack” located by the pool at Sunset Beach Club or visit the Scuba Tours website on www.divinginspain.com . Alternatively, just ask at our Leisure Desk.
One of this weekend’s highlights will be the Medieval Market which will take place at the Benalmadena Marina.
From tomorrow Friday 13th May – and until Sunday the 15th – tourists and locals who wonder down to Puerto Marina will feel like they have been transported to medieval times as they make their way around the Medieval Market which will be located in the large exhibition tent in the “Pueblo Marinero” area of the Marina.
A walk through the market will allow visitors to see artisans (my favourite are the ones who make sweets and pastries!), exhibition workshops, theatre groups, street performers and dancers, circus acts, jugglers, theatre for children, musical groups, snake charmers…the works!
There’s no doubt that the Medieval Market will provide a fun alternative for all the family this weekend. By the way…it’s free! 🙂
Next Saturday the 14th May, the city of Malaga will organise the fourth edition of “La Noche en Blanco” (literally translated as The White Night), a unique cultural event in which citizens and visitors can enjoy art exhibitions, stage shows, live music and audiovisuals in more than 100 points around the city. The great news is that all these events will have FREE admission!
This year, social networks (Facebook, Twitter and Youtube) take center stage as many of the projects being developed for “La Noche en Blanco” this year are the result of the numerous ideas and proposals made by the the citizens of Málaga through these Social Media channels. In addition, following the event via Twitter and Facebook will allow you to know which places have the longest queues – so that they can be avoided – and which ones have less affluence.
This fourth edition of The White Night promises to be the most spectacular to date. This year there will be 130 free activities – compared to 111 last year – which will take place in 100 locations. More than 60 institutions and organizations (public and private) supported the event last year, attracting 153.546 people; this year the authorities expect to surpass this figure. (more…)
Our fantastic new Beach Club has undergone extensive refurbishment work over the last few weeks. With just a few more finishing touches to go, Luna Beach will be open to the public as from Monday 9th May (please bear in mind that we will only be serving drinks during the first week; food service will be introduced the week beginning 16th May.)
Here’s a brief summary of what’s been going on this week:
Below is a photo of the new road sign which was put up this week announcing Luna Beach’s imminent opening.
Friday sees the start of the 3rd edition of Natura Malaga, a trade fair dedicated to healthy living and sustainable development. Last year, this very same fair was extremely successful, attracting over 5000 visitors; this year organisers expect to exceed this figure as they have enabled more showroom areas and presentation space (almost double).
Who is the show for? The theme of the trade fair as well as the excellent content of the workshops and activities programmed, make it a must for all professionals working in the “eco” or Bio” industries. The Show is also ideal for anyone who uses eco-friendly services or products; people who are passionate about our planet and its natural resources.
This year’s Málaga Natura Trade Show presents new activities and workshops: Presentations, PNH displays and areas devoted to a wide range of products and services for everyone who wants to lead a more fit and healthy life.
If you are interested in local London healthy food, natural cosmetics, sports, diet, training, natural medicine (find here https://www.ukmeds.co.uk/treatments/weight-loss/alli-orlistat-60mg/), London based osteopath healing practices, natural and alternative therapies or rural tourism and sustainability, you are really going to enjoy the wide variety of stands and workshops available. Here’s a brief outline and description of some of the workshops and presentations available during the show:
• massage and naturopathic techniques (osteopathy, Shiatsu, Reiki)
• Workshops physical (Naturaula) (Yoga for kids, Pilates for physical restoration)
• Practical workshops on Yoga
• Children’s workshops (Recycling, Water Care, Food, Environment)
• Informative Presentations on naturopathic techniques (How to use Feng Shui to improve our health and welfare)
The Natura Malaga Trade Fair will be held in the Exhibition and Congress Centre of Malaga and will be open to the public from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
As many of you will know, we will soon be opening our new beach Club: Luna Beach. Refurbishment work is going well and we’ll be looking to open to the public very soon!
Yesterday, I spent a few minutes talking to Sander Klomp, the latest addition to the Sunset Beach Club team and the new Manager for our beach club operation (Luna Beach and Salitos Bar). Here’s a brief recap of our conversation:
Sander isn’t a very Spanish name…where are you from?
I’m actually from Holland.
How long have you been in Spain?
I moved here just over 2 years ago. I’ve been living in the Estepona and working in the area surrounding Sotogrande and Alcaidesa
What’s your background and can you tell us a little about where you’ve been working before joining Sunset?
I studied hotel management in Maastricht and then spent the next seven years working in various F&B positions within the hotel and catering industry. (more…)
Mark the date in your calendars: Sunday 15th May, 2011. Once again, Sunset Beach Club will be heavily involved in the sponsorship and organisation of the Cudeca Walkathon, the annual fundraising event which aims to raise funds for the Cancer Care Hospice in Benalmádena.
So what exactly happens at the Walkathon? It’s basically a sponsored walk; you need to get your friends and family to sponsor you for every kilometre you walk (or run!) and then head down to Sunset Beach Club on Sunday the 15th May – sign up starts at 9:30 am – and complete as many laps of the circuits as you can!
There will be 3 different routes or circuits to choose from: 10km for the super fit and sporty; 5km for those who enjoy a good brisk walk; and the 2km walk, specially adapted for children and for disabled participants in wheelchairs.
There is a registration fee for all participants: 10€ for adults if you pre-pay (12€ on the day) and 6€ for children. Obviously, organisers are keen to encourage participants to obtain sponsorship for every kilometre walked; there will be fantastic prizes for the participants who raise the most sponsorship funds! Our neighbouring town of Fuengirola is getting ready to celebrate its “Feria Internacional de Los Pueblos” (International Peoples Fair). This unique event dates back to 1994 and was started as a way to showcase the different customs, folklore, gastronomy and cultural, historic and tourist attractions of the inhabitants of this multicultural town.
As from next Friday the 29th April and up until the 2nd May, visitors and locals alike can head down to the local fair ground in Fuengirola and enjoy the multitude of stands; there are more than 30 different countries represented at the fair!
Visiting the Feria Internacional de Los Pueblos is like travelling around the world in just 4 days! All five senses will be at work as you experience the following:
The sounds of the traditional music of each culture, played by authentic groups which, in many cases, have actually flown in from their country of origin.
The amazing smells and aromas from the different food posts where visitors can taste traditional argentinian “parilladas” (barbecues), delicious Moroccan pastries, exotic Asian dishes and traditional foods from around Spain.
Traditional dances with their typical colourful costumes.
At each stand, visitors to the fair will have the chance to purchase typical products from each represented country and even obtain specific tourist information about the country or area being promoted.
Entrance to the “Feria” is free and we thoroughly recommend you take a trip down to this fascinating fair and enjoy a fun- multicultural- day of music, dancing and delicious food!
