Blues at Moonlight - The Musicians
We’re all getting ready for the 4th edition of “Blues at Moonlight”, the popular live music festival which takes place every year here at Sunset Beach Club.
Friday the 12th and Saturday 13th November are the chosen dates for this year’s event, organised by Active Sound Productions; we expect a full house for some great live music acts! If the Blues Night we had a couple of weeks ago is anything to go by, we’re in for a great weekend!
“Blues at Moonlight” isn’t only about Blues – as the name might suggest – the musical experience goes further, encompassing the best Rock n’ Roll, Swing and Jive, Rhythm and Blues and even Jazz! There’s something for everyone…..here’s a brief summary of all the musicians taking part this year:
Friday 12th November, 2010
22:00 hrs – The Donald Reagans – True Rockabilly style music from this Madrid duo.
00:00 hrs – The Margoes – One of the newest bands to come out of the Barcelona music scene; their music is a mix of rock n’roll and rhythm and blues.
02:00 hrs – The Dirty Robbers – This 4 piece band form the UK are the kings of frat-rock!
Saturday 13th November, 2010
22:00 hrs – The Nu Niles – 21st Century Rock and Roll
23:45 hrs – Smoky Joe Combo – A swing and Jazz combo in true 1940’s fashion
01:30 hrs – Nico Duportal – French guitarist who plays swing and rhythm & blues
03:15 hrs – Nick Curran & The Lowlifes – Probably one of today’s best rock n’ roll live acts
The doors of the Moonlight Cabaret Bar open at 21:00 hrs and tickets are priced at €15 for Friday evening and €25 for Saturday. Anyone interested in catching all the acts can purchase a weekend pass for €35.
Tickets can be purchased on the door or at El Corte Inglés stores (www.elcorteingles.es)

The Birthday Girl
Last week, Melissa from our Commercial Department celebrated her 20th Birthday with a meal for her friends and family; however, it was only for girls! As can be seen in the photos, it looks like everyone had a good time!
The evening got off to a great start with a lovely meal in our Oasis Restaurant; after the 3 course meal which included generous servings of Sangría, Melissa and her guests were ready for some singing and dancing and duly headed to the Moonlight Cabaret Bar (more…)

As from the 27th March 2011, British Airways will be increasing the number of flights into Malaga airport from two to four a day. All of these extra flights to Malaga will depart from Gatwick airport and the total number of weekly flights to the Costa del Sol’s capital will be 28.
British Airways will be using Boeing 737 or Airbus A319 aircraft for this route; the service will include Club Europe and Euro Traveller cabins catering to both the business traveller and those looking for a cheaper alternative.
This is welcomed news for many travellers who prefer to fly with one of the larger carriers rather than the often – although not always – cheaper alternative of budget airlines. Let’s not forget that British Airways flights include onboard catering, online check in with the option to reserve your seat 24 hours before departure, all free of charge (makes a nice change from all the extra charges on most airlines).
Let’s hope that increase in flights will eventually translate to cheaper air fares for anyone wanting to fly from London to Malaga!

A Selection of Tapas
The town of Benalmádena celebrates its third “Ruta de la Tapa”. This unique event starts on Friday the 15th October end continues until the 24th October and the town hall hope that it will help to vitalize restaurant activity and attract clients at a time when tourist activity is lower.
So what exactly is a “Ruta de la Tapa”? Well, basically, its an event where various establishments – in this case there are thirty – agree to form part of a gastronomic route that allows participants to sample a wide variety of traditional tapas for a set price which includes a drink – prices at this event are a very reasonable, 1.50 per tapa and drink! – Visitors are given a “passport” which they have to hand in at each establishment they visit so that it can be stamped. At the end of the route, visitors hand in the passports and are then entered into a prize draw where they can win various prizes. All visitors who participate in this year’s event will also be given special handkerchiefs which they will have to wear around their necks; this allows the establishments to identify anyone taking part.
The prizes for this year’s raffle include the following: free breakfast, lunch or dinners at the various restaurants and bars taking part; entrances to some of Benalmadena’s amusement parks and the star price this year: two cruises around the Mediterranean for 4 people!
Definitely a different experience for you to enjoy on your holidays; a great variety of tapas and wines all at very reasonable prices (1.50 Euro for a tapa and drink) and, of course, the chance to win a fantastic cruise!

Last Year's Winner - Carl Mason
This weekend, La Quinta Golf and Country Club hosts the Benahavis Senior Masters; this is the second year that the tournament is held in La Quinta.
The professional tournament takes place over three days (15th to 17th October) and will be preceded by a two day Pro-am where amateurs will have the opportunity to play alongside some of the best golfers on the Seniors Tour.
With a prize fund of €180,000, the tournament has attracted some of the top names on the tour. Last year’s winner, Carl Mason, will be joined by golfing legends such as Ian Woosnam, Sam Torrance or Constantino Rocca.
The courses designer, ex Ryder Cup player Manuel Piñero will also be playing in the tournament – I would think this gives him a slight advantage over the rest of the field!
La Quinta Golf and Country Club is located in the picturesque municipality of Benahavis, renowed for the beauty if its location, its gastronomy and of course, its fantastic selection of top class golf courses.

Ecological Tricycles in the streets of Málaga
Most tourists who visit the Costa del Sol take the time to visit its main city, Málaga. With its museums, cathedral, monuments and parks, the city is a required stop for all those keen to take in a bit of culture.
Until now the way to see the city was either by bus (guided tour) or on foot; however, for those not so keen on wearing out the soles of their shoes, there is an alternative, and its ecological; enter the new tricycle taxis. (more…)

Sardines Anyone?
The Costa del Sol is famous for its “Pescaito” (Fish Dishes) with many restaurants and beach bars (chiringuitos) offering a wide selection of fresh fish dishes – boquerones, calamares, Sardines…… –
For many, sitting at a nice little “chiringuito” enjoying some fish and a cool beer or “tinto de verano” is the highlight of their holiday! In that case, you won’t want to miss the Fiesta del Pescaito in Benalmadena this weekend!
From the 8th to the 12th October, all the beach bars and restaurants on the Santa Ana Beach (next to the windmill statue) will be serving all sorts of fish dishes at discounted prices. For example, all plates of fried fish (calamares, boquerones, etc) will cost just €4.50 and all plates of shell fish (prawns, lobster, clams, etc) can be purchased for €7; drinks such as beer and wine will be available at €1.50 per glass.
The reason for these discounts is that the local Business Association of Santa Ana decided to organise this “Fiesta” as a way to mark the end of the summer season. They held a similar event in June and it was a great success with many locals and holiday makers making the most of the great prices to enjoy some traditional “Pescaito”.

Steve Payne and Capi Breccia
Last Saturday evening, our Moonlight Bar here at Sunset Beach Club was the venue for some fantastic live blues music organised and produced by Active Sound Productions.
Those who made it down to the hotel for the concert were treated to an evening of great live music, albeit by two very different acts; Steve Payne and the Johan Wahlstrom Band.
First up on stage was singer and composer, Steve Payne, regarded by many as one the UK’s finest guitarists (and he didn’t disappoint!). With only his guitar and accompanied by Argentine Saxophonist, Capi Breccia, Steve delighted the crowd with his unique style of guitar and distinct voice. The video below shows clips of Steve Payne’s performance. (more…)
