Dusk at Sohail Castle...
I’ve got some good news for all you beer lovers out there; as from next Thursday the 21st July, the Sohail Castle in Fuengirola will be the venue for the 4th Beer Festival (Bierfest).
For 10 days, visitors will be able to sample some of the finest German beers. This year, the organisers of the event have tried to make things a little more “international” by setting up various stands with a wide variety of foods from around the world.
Obviously, there will be a German stand with their frikadellen, chucrut and wide variety of German sausages, but you will also be able to try a whole range of Moroccan delicacies; an authentic Argentine “Parrillada” (BBQ); some spicy Mexican food and even fresh sea food. With hunger no longer being a problem, you might want to head over to the Cocktails stand and try a cool and refreshing Mojito – or whatever tickles your fancy.
On the 24th and 31st July, there will be Formula One races and theSohailCastle will be the perfect place to watch the top motor sport event! There will be a large TV screen so that visitors can watch their favourite drivers without giving up their delicious German beer.
The fair starts at 7:00 pm from Monday to Friday and at 12:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday; entrance is free 😉

From the 22nd July to the 1st August, you can enjoy a slightly different experience during your holidays by visiting the Beer Festival in Fuengirola’s Sohail Castle.
The festival is in its 3rd year now and is basically the Costa del Sol’s version of the Oktoberfest! You’ll have the chance to sample a great selection of wheat beers and tuck in to some typical German dishes; sausages, roast pork, german burgers and sauerkraut, will all be on the menu. Children’s entertainment and live performances throughout the week also help to make this event a fun day out for the whole family.
Just a few stats to give you an idea of the popularity of the event: last year over 100,000 people made their way to the Sohail Castle for the event and managed to drink approximately 30,000 litres of beer!!!
If you would like to visit the festival, just head on down to Fuengirola as from Thursday the 22nd July. Doors – or should I say drawbridge, remember it is in a castle – open at 19:00hrs from Monday to Friday and at 12:00hrs on weekends. Access is free but I am afraid the beer isn’t!!!!

Every year, during the month of April, The “Feria de los Pueblos” comes to Fuengirola for one week and brings the main feria ground to life with cosmopolitan ambiance and fantastic atmosphere. The feria ground is easily accessible, located between the the main train station of Fuengirola and that of Los Boliches, meaning the festival attracts many visitors from all over Andalucia. This special event offers the opportunity to taste and sample the traditional food and drink of various countries including; Ireland, Germany, Cuba, France, Italy, Mexico, Sweden and many more! Each country has it’s own tent with themed music and decoration, a visit to the “Feria de los Pueblos” allows you to “travel the World” in just a couple of hours! The fair is taking place this week until Sunday evening.

The first English speaking wedding show on the Costa del Sol took place last weekend. The Perfect Wedding Expo was held at the Palacio de la Paz in the Fuengirola fairground. It was the first wedding fair I have attended and I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and the great turn-out of both exhibitors and visitors. There were suppliers present for everything from delicious chcoolate fountains, beautiful wedding dress and evening gown designs to diamonds and jewellery as well as florists, planners and photographers, making it the one stop shop for any bride to be, planning their wedding on the coast. This weekends sees the First English speaking wedding fair on the coast! Open 10am – 8pm on Saturday 14th October and Sunday 15th October, the “Perfect Wedding Expo” will be held in Fuengirola at the Palacio de la Paz. There is going to be everything you need for planning your wedding day, all under one roof! Many different suppliers will be exhibiting at the show, including wedding planners, wedding fashion, jewellery suppliers, photographers, hair and make-up professionals, florists, transport suppliers, musicians and of course a variety of superb venues for you special day, including Sunset Beach Club!

Another one of the Spanish Summer holidays will take place on the Costa del Sol this week. Thursday 16th of July is the official holiday for Día de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, however the festivities of Virgen del Carmen are celebrated on the night of the 15th July, where the virgen is carried through the towns of Benalmadena, Fuengirola and many others and then sent out to sea with a parade of fishing boats.
