Luna Beach Club Update!

Our fantastic new Beach Club has undergone extensive refurbishment work over the last few weeks. With just a few more finishing touches to go, Luna Beach will be open to the public as from Monday 9th May (please bear in mind that we will only be serving drinks during the first week; food service will be introduced the week beginning 16th May.)

Here’s a brief summary of what’s been going on this week:

New Beach Club… New Manager: Meet Sander

Luna Beach Manager

Sander: The New Manager for Luna Beach

As many of you will know, we will soon be opening our new beach Club: Luna Beach. Refurbishment work is going well and we’ll be looking to open to the public very soon!

Yesterday, I spent a few minutes talking to Sander Klomp, the latest addition to the Sunset Beach Club team and the new Manager for our beach club operation (Luna Beach and Salitos Bar). Here’s a brief recap of our conversation:

Sander isn’t a very Spanish name…where are you from?

I’m actually from Holland.

How long have you been in Spain?

I moved here just over 2 years ago. I’ve been living in the Estepona and working in the area surrounding Sotogrande and Alcaidesa

What’s your background and can you tell us a little about where you’ve been working before joining Sunset?

I studied hotel management in Maastricht and then spent the next seven years working in various F&B positions within the hotel and catering industry. (more…)

Come and Join Us for the 2011 Walkathon in Aid of Cudeca

Cudeca Walkathon 2011Mark the date in your calendars: Sunday 15th May, 2011. Once again, Sunset Beach Club will be heavily involved in the sponsorship and organisation of the Cudeca Walkathon, the annual fundraising event which aims to raise funds for the Cancer Care Hospice in Benalmádena.

So what exactly happens at the Walkathon? It’s basically a sponsored walk; you need to get your friends and family to sponsor you for every kilometre you walk (or run!) and then head down to Sunset Beach Club on Sunday the 15th May – sign up starts at 9:30 am – and complete as many laps of the circuits as you can!

There will be 3 different routes or circuits to choose from: 10km for the super fit and sporty; 5km for those who enjoy a good brisk walk; and the 2km walk, specially adapted for children and for disabled participants in wheelchairs.

There is a registration fee for all participants: 10€ for adults if you pre-pay (12€ on the day) and 6€ for children. Obviously, organisers are keen to encourage participants to obtain sponsorship for every kilometre walked; there will be fantastic prizes for the participants who raise the most sponsorship funds! The Oasis Restaurant Menu Gets a “Makeover”

New Menu at the Oasis RestaurantEaster is just around the corner and with it, the start of our busy high season. Just before things get “mad” in the hotel kitchens, our Head Chef and his team have been busy making a few changes to our á la carte menu.

The new additions to the menu offer something for all tastes; there are some more traditional dishes and there are some really innovative creations, perfect for those guests who enjoy trying something new!

Without further-a-do, here’s a brief summary of the new dishes you’ll be able to try next time you visit Sunset Beach Club:

Starters

We’ve got 4 new starters on the menu…how does this sound? Strawberry Gazpacho with marinated fresh cheese a twist of the popular Andalucian cold soup flavoured with strawberries. Or maybe you’d prefer the Deep Fried Fishcakes with herbs, served with mixed leaves and a herb vinaigrette?

Chef’s Specials

All the old favourites remain on the menu; however, we have a new special which sounds fantastic… Roasted duck breast with passion fruit, served with a thyme sauce, daily potato dish and seasonal vegetables.

Fish Dishes

We’ve got two new fish dishes for you to try:

  • Grilled salmon supreme with sautéed shallots, served with a vermouth sauce
  • Pan fried hake loins with a red pepper vinaigrette

Chef’s Home Made Desserts

Once again,Chef Paul proves that he really is the “master” of desserts with these two fantastic additions:

  • Strawberry Pavlova (Meringue nest filled with chantilly cream, topped with fresh strawberries)
  • Chef’s floating Island (Poached meringue over a blue curacao sauce & sand biscuit)

Finally, we’ve made significant changes to the kids menu. The little ones can now enjoy healthier dishes made with fresh local products, for example:

  • Grandma’s Meatballs – Delicious home made beef meatballs in a tomato sauce with rice
  • Captain’s Catch – Crispy homemade fish fingers with pea puree

So there you have it; some of the delicious new dishes available on our new á la carte menu. Have you tried our new dishes? What did you think?
