This Friday sees the start of the Ryder Cup which, this year, will be held at the Celtic Manor Resort, on the outskirts of Newport in South Wales.
Europe and the USA do battle once again in an effort to take home the coveted cup. It will be interesting to see how team captains, Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin (still can’t get used to him without that moustache!) handle the pressure and choose the line up for the first day’s Fourballs and Foursomes. Whatever happens, we are in for 3 days of great golf!
I wonder whether Tiger Woods will be able to put all his “troubles” behind him and actually put in a good performance at a Ryder Cup! Could the pressure just be too much? Will Europe’s Molinari brothers take the steal the show? Exciting stuff…….Come on Europe!
If you’re lucky enough to be going to watch it live, I’m extremely jealous! If, on the other hand, you’re at Sunset Beach Club or nearby, then feel free to join us in the Panorama Bar where you will be able to watch all the action live (on plasma screens) and enjoy a not-so-quiet pint with other golf enthusiasts!
Well, Debbie and Annemie made it back from a very muddy Ploughing Championship last week in Athy, Co. Kildare!
The trip was a great success with thousands of visitors attending the event. Debbie and Annemie were certainly kept busy as you can see in the photos below where they are giving out loads of free goodies!
Unfortunately, no-one was able to get a photo of Debbie and Annemie in their wellies! (very disappointed); however, our photographer (not too sure who it was) did a good job of taking a vast portfolio of visitors in their wellington boots! (see below)
We had a full house for the “Back to the 40’s” Show at the Moonlight on Monday evening! Hundreds of people enjoyed a great evening of singing and dancing and judging by the applause, the night was a great success.
Here’s a few photos I took throughout the show as well as a short video with various clips.(please excuse the video editing ;-))
We have many couples who choose Sunset Beach Club for their special day. The majority of weddings take place in the “higher” season months – typically from April to October – as people like to play it safe with the weather and prefer the warmer months.
That’s all very well, but the downside is that weddings in the high season tend to be considerably more expensive; hiring of wedding venues, accommodation, it all adds up. What most people do not realise is that the weather here on the Costa del Sol is generally very good in the winter months. Yes, we get some rain but we also get lots of sun too! With average winter temperatures (November to March) of 19ºC, a winter wedding in Spain might just be the right option for you.
Well, we’ve got a solution for those looking to save money and searching for a cheaper Spanish wedding option; Our new winter wedding packages are perfect for couples who would like to get married in Spain but are on a tight budget; you can save up to €1000 compared to a summer wedding. We have a range of packages which include seafront blessings or church ceremonies; to give you an idea, to can get a winter wedding package for €6200. What’s included in this price? We’ve highlighted the main items in the list below:
Personal Wedding Planner to help you arrange your special day
Wedding reception meal including drinks
Drinks reception with canapés
Table Flowers
Wedding night upgrade for the Bride & Groom
Church fees
Paperwork (legal)
Corsages
Bouquets for the Bride and two Bridesmaids
Buttonholes for the Groom & best man
Flowers for the church
Bride’s hair and makeup
Taster meal
Bride’s transport to the church
Transport for guests
Photo Album
And if you think that’s great value, wait until you hear what your guests pay for a room in the hotel…..During the winter months we have special room rates which start at €56 per room per night (you can get 3 adults in each room) including full buffet breakfast!
Last week, 40 golfers from the Dublin Gas Golf Society stayed with us at Sunset. It was a short break for the lads (3 Nights), however, they managed to squeeze in 3 rounds of golf at our sister Resort of La Cala, and a little night life too!!!(The photo was taken on the Friday morning, just before boarding the bus that would take them to the golf course – as you may notice there aren’t quite 40 in the photo, I guess they had a bit of a late night!).
Congratulations to Annemie and Susana from our Golf & Leisure Desk for doing a great job organising the groups stay!
Costa del Soul - The best Soul Music at Sunset Beach Club
At the end of October, we welcome back, for the 2nd year running, Gold Soul – a well established UK Soul event promoter – and their week long “Costa del Soul” event.
Sunset Beach Club will become a haven for Soul music enthusiasts who will enjoy a week of the best soul tunes and, of course, the hotel’s fantastic facilities.
Some of the UK’s best DJ’s will fly in for the event and will delight fans with their mix of Northern Soul, Modern Anthems, Motown and 5 decades of great soul music. The fun begins each day with some light sessions by the pool (14:00 to 16:00) Sun, sea, sangria and some great soul! From 18:00 to 21:00 you can enjoy some more light sessions in the Panorama Bar, making the most of happy our and the amazing views.
However, the real party begins at 21:00 hrs in the Moonlight Bar! Get ready for 7 nights of dancing to the best soul music as the DJ’s take to the stage! (Nige Brown, Chris King, John Poole, Dave Evison and Rob Thomas are just some of the DJ’s flying in).
This week long event is hosted by Kev Roberts – one of the main forces in Northern Soul and Retro Pop music – and we expect to accommodate many fans flying down from the UK specially for the event. Anyone interested in the event can go to the Goldsoul website at www.goldsoul.co.uk, where you can buy specific packages which include accommodation and entrance to the daily events.
If there are soul fans living locally on the Costa del Sol, you are more than welcome to come down to Sunset Beach Club and join in the fun. Tickets will be available at the door each evening (€10 per night).
