Cirque du Soleil, the largest theatrical producer in the world arrives in Málaga next week with their show ‘Kooza’. From the 13th September to the 13th October locals and visitors to the Costa del Sol can enjoy this fun and colourful show in the ‘Grand Chapiteau’ which will be located in the Recinto Ferial Cortijo de Torres in Málaga.
Kooza premiered in Montreal, Canada, in 2007 and has since been touring the world delighting audiences. Written and directed by David Shiner, a former clown in Cirque du Soleil’s production of Nouvelle Expérience, this unique show offers a return to Cirque’s origins.
“Kooza combines acrobatic performance and the art of clowning, while exploring fear, identity, recognition and power. The Innocent’s journey brings him into contact with comic characters from an electrifying world full of surprises, thrills, audacity and total involvement.”
The show includes many performers, but six characters are central to the main story: The Trickster, the Innocent, the King, the Clowns, Heimloss, and the Bad Dog.
The audience will enjoy nine acrobatic acts – supplemented by other minor acts that develop the storyline) including:
- Charivari – The first act in the show sees the house troupe creating human towers and using other circus apparatus such as a Chinese Pole.
- Double Highwire: Twin highwires criss-cross diagonally at 15 and 25 feet above the stage.
- Wheel of Death: A pendulum with two hamster wheel-like walkways at each end. Two performers jump, leap and skip rope inside and outside the wheel.
- Hoop Manipulation: A high-caliber hoops act where the performer spins up to seven hoops at once.
The show’s music, which is performed live, was inspired by the music of India, pop music, 1970’s funk and film scores from the 1940’s and 50’s.
Regular tickets start at approximately €30 but there are other options including:
