One hundred and sixteen minutes; that’s what it took the Spanish team break the solid Dutch defence last night! It wasn’t the most beautiful of football matches but it was definitely intense. The boys in red made us suffer – a little too long for my liking – but Iniesta’s goal 4 minutes away from the dreaded penalty shootout means that Spain win the world cup for the first time in history and complete a well deserved double after winning the European Championship 2 years ago.
The whole of Spain was rocking last night after the final whistle. All you could hear were the screams of jubilant fans, fireworks, car horns and even some attempts and blowing the, now world famous, vuvuzela’s! As we have been doing throughout the whole competition, we showed the game on the 3 metre screen at the Moonlight Bar; hundreds of guests gathered to watch the game and you can image what the atmosphere was like! Well….. not exactly
. Apparently a local association in Benalmadena – ¿Yo? Producto Andaluz – has invited President Zapatero and his family to spend a few days of their summer holiday in Benalmadena.
The association’s president, Bartolomé Florido, pointed out that this invitation has been made so that Mr Zapatero can visit our beautiful coastal town which, in his words, “Has everything you need to enjoy an extraordinary holiday.”
There’s no doubt that a visit from the Spanish President would help to push Benalmadena as an ideal tourist and holiday destination. I’m sure there will be plenty of hotels willing to accommodate the Zapatero family and their entourage, Sunset Beach Club included!
Our reservations team are on full alert in case we get a call from La Moncloa (equivalent of nº10 Downing Street) but they’ll have to hurry up as we are practically fully booked for the whole summer!
We’ll be sure to keep you posted on events….

Well it’s been such a busy week here at the hotel we’ve barely had chance to blog! July has arrived and with it so has the scorching Spanish Summer sunshine. But there’s more to Sunset than just great weather, this week we’ve had weddings taking place on Wednesday, Thursday and a seafront blessing planned for later on this afternoon so the resort is buzzing with blushing brides. Also of course with the World cup final looming, the atmosphere is tense as the staff and guests alike wait in suspense to see if Spain can go all the way and win the cup. We’ve had a great turn out for both semi final matches in the Moonlight bar, and will also be showing the final there this Sunday as well as the third place play-off match on Saturday night. Let’s hope Spain can give us a fantastic finale to the week!

Today’s highlighted matches include Germany v Ghana at 8.30pm and the 4 o’clock kick off which will see England fight for survival in the tournement against Slovenia, both of which will be shown live in our Moonlight bar. The hotel is buzzing this week with the start of the World Cup and three weddings, there’s a great atmosphere around the place! Happy hour is as popular as ever in our Panorama Bar and the Moonlight bar has become the central hub for most main matches, with the brand new 3 metre screen. Today is the wedding of Susan and Kevin, yesterday Emma and Joseph tied the knot and tomorrow is the turn of Emma Culleton and her fiance Patrick. Best wishes to all couples from all of us here at Sunset Beach Club!
