Reasons to visit the Costa del Sol in April

The Costa del Sol is one of Spain’s most popular tourist destinations attracting visitors from all over the world. We all know that the busy Easter and Summer holiday periods are the most popular with hotels at full capacity and local businesses, bars and restaurants busier than ever.

But what about the quieter months of the year? This year, Easter is earlier than usual so most of April promises to be less frantic with kids back to school after the Easter Break. If you enjoy the gorgeous Spring weather but prefer a quieter and more relaxed vibe, then this is the perfect time to visit.

Couples or families with babies looking for a peaceful break in the sun will love it here in mid-April. And don’t forget that hotel rates are significantly lower than in the high summer season so that’s another great excuse to travel at this time of year.

If you’re still unconvinced, here are 7 more reasons to visit the Costa del Sol in April:

1: Mild and Pleasant Weather

The weather in April here on the Costa del Sol tends to be mild and pleasant. You’ll get plenty of sunshine but don’t have to worry about that stifling heat we sometimes get in the summer months.

The mix of mild temperatures and sunshine makes this an ideal month for enjoying outdoor activities like walking and hiking, or to do some sightseeing in this beautiful part of Spain.

2: Lower Prices and Fewer Crowds

This year most of April falls in the shoulder season here on the Costa del Sol. The Easter festivities run into the first week of April but after that, it’s a lot quieter. Schools go back early in the month, so you won’t have to worry about large crowds and long queues everywhere.

As we mentioned earlier, hotel prices are also lower after the Easter rush. To give you an idea, here at Sunset Beach Club, you can book a 1-bedroom mountain view apartment – which sleeps 4 people – from €102 per night!

So, if you found Easter prices a little out of your budget, this is your chance to grab a good deal.

3: Spring is in Bloom

Paloma Park

April on the Costa del Sol is gorgeous! Spring is in full bloom with flowers and trees producing colourful and picturesque scenes in parks and green areas.

If you are staying at Sunset Beach Club, you must visit Benalmadena’s famous Paloma Park. With over 200,000 square metres of green areas, it’s a stunning location for a picnic or a gentle stroll.

If you decide to visit Malaga City, make sure you programme a trip to the La Concepción Botanical Gardens. At this time of year, it’s famous for its blooming Wisteria which transforms this famous park into a vibrant sea of purple.

4: Enjoy a Wide Selection of Outdoor Activities

If you enjoy the outdoors, April is an ideal time to be adventurous and take to the hills for an energetic hike on one of the many routes available in Benalmadena. Gorgeous scenery and stunning views of the Coast will make this one of the highlights of your holiday!

If walking isn’t your thing and you’d prefer to cycle, there are plenty of places to hire a bike and indulge in some leisurely exercise along one of the many promenades and walkways along the Coast. The Senda Litoral, which will eventually join the whole of the Coast from Manilva to Nerja, is a great way to explore the area on a bike.

5: Taste the Best of Spanish and Local Cuisine

The end of March and start of April see the opening of Beach Bars and ‘Chiringuitos’ which have remained closed during the winter months.

That means you get to sample delicious fresh fish dishes (fried calamari anyone?), salads, and other local delicacies while you sip on an ice-cold beer or glass of crisp white wine.

6: Experience the Local Culture

The Pompidou Museum in Malaga

If you enjoy discovering the authentic and traditional side of Spain, make the most of this reasonably quiet time of year to immerse yourself in true local culture.

With the good weather comes the start of local festival and concert season; just ask at the Sunset Beach Club Leisure desk when you arrive at the hotel and our friendly team will be able to tell you about all the events taking place during your stay.

Prefer a spot of shopping? You can wander through many of the local street markets which sell everything from leather goods to fresh fruit, vegetables or clothes.

Culture vultures have a fantastic section of museums and iconic landmarks to look forward to in Malaga City. The Picasso, Thyssen or Pompidou are just some of the impressive museums you can visit the next time you’re in Malaga’s capital.

7: Visit Popular Tourist Attractions

Get out and visit some of the most popular tourist attractions without having to deal with lengthy queues and large crowds. Here are some of our favourites…
