Ricky Lavazza on stage in the Moonlight Theatre

This Friday the 16th March 2012, we’ve got a very special event in the Moonlight Theatre: Ricky Lavazza – and special guest artists – will be performing his fabulous tribute show in aid of a very special cause: The Tomas Leighton Care Charity.

Tomas was born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. He was also born blind. All proceeds raised at the event this Friday will go towards helping 7 year old Tomas get the much needed specialist medical care he needs now and for his future. If you’d like to read more about the Tomas Leighton Care Charity, please visit their website www.tlc-charity.com .

Tickets are just €10 for adults and €5 for children and you’ll be entered into the raffle which will be held during the show – there are some great prizes to be won! Ricky Lavazza will be performing his highly rated show with tributes to some of the all time greats, including: Michael Bublé, Tom Jones, Robbie Williams and the one-and-only Elvis!

We look forward to welcoming you down to Sunset Beach Club’s Moonlight Theatre on Friday evening for a great night of entertainment, but more importantly, to help us raise funds for young Tomas.

Doors open at 8:00pm with the show starting at 8:45pm. Tickets can be purchased at Sunset Beach Club or you can call Jo on 645 145 177 or John on 952 964361/628 562 580.

PS. Please share this…we need to fill the Moonlight on Friday 🙂

Benalmadena Gets Ready to Celebrate St Patrick’s Day 2012

St Patricks Day at Sunset Beach Club

St Patrick's Day Decorations at the Panorama Bar

St. Patrick’s day is just around the corner and Benalmadena is gearing itself up for a great day of celebrations!

The Irish Association of Spain has organised a fantastic day to commemorate this popular festivity. It’s important to note that this year, the traditional mass has been changed to the Virgen del Carmen church in Benalmádena and will begin at 1pm.

After mass, the traditional parade will head down to the Feria ground behind Paloma Park for an afternoon of singing, dancing, drinking and all-round fun! From 2:15pm to 5:30pm you’ll be treated to a whole host of acts including Irish musicians and dance groups brought over from Ireland especially for the occasion (more…)

Selwo Marina and Selwo Aventura Open for the New Season

Selwo AventuraTwo of our favourite attractions on the Costa del Sol, Selwo Marina Dolphinarium and Selwo Aventura will be opening for the new season today (Friday 24th February 2012).

After a well earned winter break, these popular parks are ready to delight visitors with their unique facilities.

Selwo Marina Dolphinarium, located just minutes away from Sunset Beach Club, will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this year. Special activities will be planned throughout the season to celebrate, so visiting the park is a must if you are visiting theCosta del Sol 🙂

Selwo Aventura, the wildlife adventure park located near Estepona (Approx. 1 hour drive from Sunset Beach Club) also opens to the public today. In a constant effort to reinvent the visitor experience, Selwo Aventura will be introducing new species and animals to their, already impressive, wildlife family. Here’s a quick list of the new attractions:

  • Two new Hippos – Margarita and Manolito (can’t get more Spanish than that!! ) – have been brought to the park in the hope that they’ll be able to add to the parks population with a little Manolito Hippo! The Masai Mara area of the park has been especially prepared to welcome the two Hippos and to make sure they feel at home.
  • HyenaTerritoryis one of the new installations which will be introduced this season. This is perfect opportunity to learn more about this roaming carnivore, vital for the African ecosystem.
  • The newLionTerritory. Located in the main village area of Selwo Aventura, this new feature will allow visitors to see the King of the Jungle up close!
  • The “Reserva de losLagos” area of the park will be the new home of the Sitatunga (don’t worry, I had to look it up too 😉 it’s a type of antelope) another African species.

If you are planning on visiting Sunset Beach Club for a holiday – and especially if you have kids –  make sure you include Selwo Marina Dolphinarium and Selwo Aventura on your list of ‘Places to see’, you’ll have a blast!

Jump on the 120 Bus for a Value-for-Money Day Out!

Benalmadena Bus route nº120

Reading through our latest reviews on Tripadvisor, I came across a very complementary comment by a guest who recently stayed with us at Sunset Beach Club.

Apart from his very kind words praising our facilities and friendly staff (thank you!), this guest also reminded me of our hotel’s fantastic location as a base to explore other areas and towns on the Costa del Sol. In particular, he made reference to the bus stop just outside the hotel and the fantastic nº120 bus! Yes, we have taxis outside the hotel, but the beauty the 120 bus is that it only costs €1.50 per trip 🙂 (more…)

World Snow Day: A Great Excuse for a Family Day Out inSierra Nevada

World Snow Day in Sierra NevadaThis Sunday the 22nd January it’s World Snow Day, an event which is being celebrated for the first time in ski resorts all over the world!

World Snow Day is the second phase of a project initiated by the FIS in 2007 called “Bring Children to the Snow”; the concept is self explanatory… In this phase – the biggest day on snow –  simultaneous activities will occur all around the world on the 22nd January and will be repeated yearly in the 3rd week of January.

This unique initiative is designed to encourage families, and in particular, those with children to begin enjoying the snow. The idea is for children to try and experiment all types of snow related activities and sports. Obviously, people of all ages are encouraged to join in the fun and continue to enjoy the wonders of snow for years to come! (more…)
