Mijas Gets Ready for the 7th Edition of its Popular Blues Festival

Mijas Blues Festival 2013The usually quiet and tranquil white village of Mijas is about to get a little noisier… but it’s a good kind of noise: The Mijas Blues Festival!

For the 7th year running (from the 5th to 7th July) this fantastic festival, organised by ‘Aint Nothin’ But…’ and the Mijas Town Hall Foreigner’s Department, will once again provide 3 days of the best Blues music; and all for FREE!

This year the whole festival will be held in the main ‘Plaza’ and visitors will also be able to enjoy lots of delicious food and drink in the many bars and restaurants surrounding the square (that part isn’t free though ;-))  (more…)

Dinosaurios Park: A New Family Attraction in Torremolinos

There’s a fun new exhibition in Torremolinos and it’s got some pretty massive inhabitants… Dinosaurs!

During July, August and September, the Dinosaurios Park exhibition will be located in the main car park of the Torremolinos Exhibition Centre and will provide both entertainment and education for children and parents alike.

An enormous 12 metre tall brachiosaurus will welcome you upon arrival at the exhibition and once inside, you’ll be taken on a fascinating trip into the world of the dinosaurs. There are more than 50 replicas of dinosaurs, many of which are life size!

Here’s a quick summary of what you’ll find at the Dinosaurios Park:

  • Life size Dinosaur fossils
  • Mechanical dinosaurs which come to life with their unique movements and sounds.
  • Realistic scenes that take you back to the dinosaur age.
  • Replicas of dinosaurs that reach 12m in height!
  • The chance to become a palaeontologist for a day by looking for fossils.

  • Games
  • And lots more…

Have you ever visited Antequera? If not, you should definitely consider adding it to your list of ‘places to visit’ as it’s probably one of the most overlooked attractions in Andalucia.

This summer you’ll have the perfect excuse as the Antequera Town Hall will be running a special campaign called ‘Luz de Luna’ (‘Moonlight’). This unique initiative consists of a series of night visits – in English and Spanish – which will take you to some of the most iconic landmarks in the area; a great idea as visiting this beautiful part of Andalucia during the day and having to deal with the extreme heat is probably not a good idea 😉 (more…)

Last weekend I took my family on a day trip to Sierra Nevada. The kids had been bugging me for weeks that they wanted to go and see the snow, so after quickly checking the weather forecast (didn’t want to drive all the way up the mountain to find that the ski station was closed due to bad weather) we decided to head out on Saturday morning.

The beauty of Sierra Nevada is that it’s just a couple of hours drive from Benalmádena. We left at 8:00am and – after a short breakfast stop – arrived in Europe’s most southern ski resort at around 11:00am.  (more…)

Carnival season is popular in many of the towns and cities located up and down the coast but in this post, we’re going to focus on two cities: Benalmadena (for obvious reasons) and the amazing Málaga Carnival which is probably the most spectacular and colourful of all!

Fuengirola Gets Ready for its 4th ‘Erotic’Tapas Route

4th Erotic Tapas Route in FuengirolaFrom the 1st to the 18th of November 2012, Fuengirola will celebrate the 4th edition of its – now famous – and extremely popular ‘Erotic’  Tapas Route, an original and fun initiative which increases in popularity each year attracting tapas lovers from all over Spain.

This year the town hall expects the participation of 80 of the city’s bars and restaurants, all of which will compete for the coveted prize of best ‘Erotic’ Tapa. Each of these establishments will have to prepare a sensual and fun tapa which clients will be able to try during the 18 days of the event.

Last year’s tapas route saw visitors consume the impressive figure of 260.000 tapas; this year organisers hope to improve on this number. A few of us here in Sunset Beach Club’s Commercial Department will do our best to contribute to this figure as we’re planning an evening out to make our way around the Tapas Route and report on this fun event from the ‘front lines’ 🙂 (more…)
