Dive Centre at Sunset Beach Club gets 5 star Dive Resort Rating from PADI

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

5 star PADI dive centre in BenalmadenaScubaTours, the dive centre located within the Sunset Beach Club facilities has recently been awarded the 5 star Dive Resort rating from PADI. This fantastic onsite facility was already a registered PADI dive centre but the new distinction serves as recognition of the courses which have been taught over recent years.

Our dive centre has certified many divers in the popular Open Water Dive and Advanced Diver qualifications; however, it has also taught many specialty courses such as photography, wreck diving (in nearby Gibraltar), search and recovery, underwater navigation and many more. This is fantastic news for Sunset Beach Club and Scuba Tours as guests who stay with us and want to take a scuba diving course can feel confident that they are receiving instruction from a registered and recommended official PADI dive centre (we’re actually listed on the PADI website :-)).

But the good news does not stop there. On the 1st November 2012 Scuba Tours will receive the rating of PADI 5 star IDC Resort. This is in recognition of the facilities they can offer to run an IDC (Instructor Development Course). This is fantastic as this will be the only IDC centre in the area that offers full instructor training facilities on site: Accommodation, conference rooms, swimming pool, storage and an open water dive site just metres away.

Battery Box and Paper Recycling Machine

A few months ago we wrote a blog post about how we’re working hard to reduce energy and water consumption at Sunset Beach Club; well today we’re going to let you know about a few of the recycling initiatives we are undertaking in our quest to become an environmentally friendly hotel.

Here are 6 of the recycling initiatives we are busy implementing at the moment:

1)      Battery Disposal: We go through a lot of batteries at Sunset Beach Club… just think about all those remote controls for the TV’s and air-conditioning units in each and every room! Our battery recycling programme aims to reduce the number of batteries which are disposed of as municipal solid waste thereby reducing the risks of solid contamination and water pollution. We’ve even got a box at reception where guests can deposit any old batteries they wish to get rid of :-) Read More…

Euro-2012Euro 2012 kicks off tomorrow – 8th June – with the inaugural match between Poland and Greece at 6pm.

We know that many of our guests are ‘football mad’ and won’t want to miss any of the big games – especially the ones involving their national squad – so we’ll be showing comprehensive coverage of most games.

Most of the Euro 2012 games will be shown on the screens in the Panorama Bar; however, the big games involving Spain, Ireland and England (Most of our guests hail from these countries) will be shown on the fantastic 6 square metre screen in our Moonlight Theatre!

Here’s a list of the games we’ll be showing in the Moonlight:  Read More…

Sunset Beach Club: A Truly ‘Green’ Hotel

Getting rid of the red palm weevil...

The management at Sunset Beach Club has set itself the task of turning our hotel into a property which respects the environment and its surroundings; a specific and detailed environmental policy will allow us to become a ‘green’ hotel. To help us with this challenging task, we have partnered with local company, Biogrove.

With offices in Arroyo dela Miel, Biogrove specialises in preventative and healing treatments for the elimination of plagues and diseases in trees and plants. They also offer guidance in issues relating to the management of soil fertility, help in choosing what species to plant and with everything relating to the creation and maintenance of all green areas within the hotel.

These are some of the initiatives we are undertaking at the moment, initiatives that will allow us to reach our goal of becoming a ‘green’ hotel: Read More…

The Silver Beats - Beatles Tribute

The Silver Beats

Last night the Moonlight Theatre rocked to the sound of local Beatles tribute band, the Silver Beats. This is the first time this fantastic band form Málaga have played at Sunset Beach Club; however, judging by the audience response to their Beatles rendition, it won’t be the last!

Formed 17 years ago, The Silver Beats play songs from the ‘Fab Four’s’ early years influenced by 50’s rock and roll tunes from the United States and when they started composing their first – now classic – songs.

As you can see from the photos and the videos, the Silver Beats put on a great show. Not only do they look the part – even their instruments are all original replicas – but their unique mix of voice, guitar riffs and great rhythm made for a great evening of entertainment. Read More…

After 25 Years at Sunset, We Bid Farewell to Sr. Benito

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

David Benito – or Sr. Benito as we all call him – has been heading our Reservations Department for 25 years. He has been an integral part of the team that has seen Sunset Beach Club grow into one of the most successful and highly regarded hotels on the Costa del Sol. However, all good things come to an end and it is now time for Sr. Benito to retire and enjoy a well earned break from the day to day “madness” of our reservations department.

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish Sr. Benito the very best for the future. We’re also delighted to inform you that Armando Martinez, who has been our Reception Manager and Reservations assistant for the past 9 years, will now take up Sr. Benito’s role.

In turn, Silvia Bellido, who has worked on our reception desk for the last 15 years, has been promoted to the position of Deputy Reception Manager.

Those of you who are regular visitors to Sunset Beach Club will, no doubt, already know Armando and Silvia; we are sure you will join us in congratulating them both on their promotions and wish them the best of luck in their new roles.

If any of you wish to contact our Reservations Department, the email address remains the same: booking@sunsetbeachclub.com
