The Luna Mora Festival in Guaro: A Weekend of Music and Culture

Festival de la Luna Mora de GuaroOn the 6th and 7th September – the picturesque white village of Guaro celebrates the 23rd edition of its famous ‘Luna Mora’ Festival.

As has been the case the last two years, this year’s festivities have been reduced to two days (It’s used to be four) but they’ve still managed to put together an impressive programme of events with activities and entertainment for all the family.

Throughout the weekend, the village becomes a meeting point for traditional Andalusí music and culture. The streets come alive in the evenings with the stunning illumination of 25,000 candles strategically positioned to create a unique and magical ambiance. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the traditional Arab artisan market, workshops (Henna and belly dancing), street performers, storytelling and mouth-watering gastronomy. (more…)

The Museum of Malaga: The City’s New Cultural Jewel

museo-de-malagaAs of last Monday the 12th December 2016, Málaga city boasts a stunning new museum to add to its’ – already impressive – collection: The Museum of Malaga.

The new museum is located in the ‘Palacio de la Aduana’, the old Custom’s building. The original museum closed 20 years ago (almost to the day) and the opening date is no coincidence as it marks the 19th anniversary of the first demonstration demanding that the Customs building be used for cultural purposes. Flamenco Week in Benalmadena: From 14th to 21st November

Flamenco Week in BenalmadenaBenalmadena is getting ready to host one of the most important cultural events of its yearly calendar: Flamenco Week. Playing a key role in the promotion of the town’s Flamenco culture, the event has become one of the main tributes to this universal art in the province of Malaga. 

Flamenco Week takes place from the 14th to 21st November in various different cultural and educational centres of Benalmadena. Organised by Malaga’s ‘Peña La Repompa’ in collaboration with Benalmadena Council’s Cultural Department, the main aim of the event is to pay tribute to the art of Flamenco, coinciding with the celebration, on the 16th November, of the anniversary of Flamenco being declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.  (more…)

This Autumn, Malaga will once again become a haven for art lovers and tourists looking for an enriching cultural experience. Three of the city’s most popular museums have interesting exhibitions planned over the next few months.

Perhaps the most exciting of these exhibitions takes place at Malaga’s Thyssen Museum. Over 50 works will focus on landscapes around Europe, all hand-chosen by owner Baroness Thyssen. The exhibition will feature paintings which span the 19th and 20th centuries, including works from Leger, Courbet, Van Gogh and Monet. (more…)
