25th Edition of the International Festival in Mijas: 7th, 8th & 9th June 2013

The beautiful white village of Mijas is getting ready for another edition of its International Festival; however, this one is special as it is the 25th anniversary.

Organised by the foreigners department of Mijas Town Hall, this fun 3 day event is a must-see for anyone visiting the Costa del Sol next weekend. More than 20 countries and nationalities take part in this festival which includes music, dancing, delicious foods from all over the world, street performers, giant BBQ’s, handcrafted goods, special performaces (see below) and general all round fun! The Mijas Jazz Festival 2012 Starts this Friday!

Mijas jazz festival 2012This Friday the 19th October sees the start of the Mijas Jazz Festival which will offer concerts during two consecutive weekends (Friday and Saturday evenings).

All the concerts will take place in the Las Lagunas Theatre and the programme of events is as follows:

Friday 19th October

The Golfinis Swing with their unique blend of gypsy swing and old school jazz

Saturday 20th October

TheNew OrleansJump Band – A popular band made up of expats who live inSpain.

Friday 26th October

The Phil Wilkinson Quartet take to the stage playing classic Jazz tunes from a wide range of artists including Duke Ellington, John Coltrane and Cole Porter.

Saturday 27th October

Tracey Reid and The Sweet Rhythm Kings.

Tickets are €10 for adults and €7 for pensioners and children and can be purchased at the Las Lagunas Theatre ticket office which is open from 5pm to 8pm on Monday, Thursday and Friday.

Mijas Racecourse Hosts Beer Festival

From today (12th July) and until the 29th July, the Mijas Racecourse will host its very own version of the Oktoberfest.

You’ll be able to enjoy traditional blonde and wheat beers imported specially from Germany, all served in half litre a one litre jars as well as some delicious typically german dishes. Live shows and music will complete a full entertainment programme which you won’t want to miss.

The organisers have gone to great lengths to ensure the Racecourse resembles a true Bavarian Beer Fest, I guess we’ll have to take a drive up and see if they’ve done a good job 😉

The Beer Festival will be open to the public every day from 7pm to 3am. Entrance is free with the exception of the 14th, 21st and 28th July as there are evening horse races programmed on these dates. If you’d like to go along on race days, the price is €5 for adults; children and pensioners can watch the races for free.

The Mijas Racecourse is located approximately 25 minutes drive from Sunset Beach Club. Just take the coast road to Fuengirola and continue on the A7 road towardsMarbella. When you reach the Bil-Bil castle on the western side of Fuengirola, turn right and follow the signs for the ‘Hipodromo Mijas/Costa del Sol’.

 

Mijas Blues Festival 2012: 3 Days of the Best Blues

Mijas Blues Festival 2012It’s that time of year again… from the 6th to the 8th July 2012, Mijas Town becomes a haven for Blues lovers from all over as it celebrates the 6th edition of the Mijas Blues Festival.

Ain’t Nothin´But… in collaboration with the Mijas Town Council Foreigner’s Department have once again put together a fantastic event which aims to become one of Europe’s top Blues festivals. Best thing about this event fantastic event is that it’s FREE!

The festival will be held in the town’s main Plaza with Friday night’s acts on the beautiful old bandstand and Saturday and Sunday’s on the main stage.  (more…)

The ‘Festival de los Pueblos’ (Peoples Festival) 2012 in Mijas: Cultura, Folklore and Gastronomy from over 20 Countries

This weekend – form the 8th to the 10th June – the town of Mijas celebrates its traditional ‘Festival de losPueblos’ (People’s Festival).

The town will transform into a large stage with shows, music, dance and street performers. Everyone is invited to this large party which will take up most of the town’s streets and squares and serves to show the world the multicultural nature of Mijas’ inhabitants.

With stands, performances and workshops from Algeria, Cuba, Brazil, India, Uruguay, Germany, Morocco, Colombia, United States, Bolivia, Mexico, Ukraine, Senegal, Chile, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Vietnam, Argentina, Thailand, Israel, Spain and Mijas, a fun weekend is guaranteed! (more…)

Don’t Miss the 5th Blues Festival in Mijas Village

Mijas Blues FestivalThis weekend, visitors to the traditional village of Mijas wont be spending their time visiting the usual tourist attractions and riding on the famous Mijas donkeys! This weekend, the town has lined up a fantastic event which has the makings of a great weekend of music and fun: The Mijas Blues Festival.

Starting tomorrow Saturday 4th June and continuing until late on Sunday evening (5th June), the main square of Mijas will become the centre stage for some of the best Blues music.

This exclusive event has been jointly organised by Ain’t Nothin But the Blues Bar in London and the Mijas Town Council Foreigner’s Department; anyone planning on attending will be happy to know that all the music is FREE J, just make sure you turn up early as they’re expecting large crowds!
