Tapas with a Touch of Magic: The New Gastronomic Route in Arroyo de la Miel

Tapas con Magia in Arroyo de la MielNext Friday the 24th May sees the start of a new gastronomic route in Arroyo dela Miel: ‘Tapas with Magic’.

For those of you unfamiliar with these gastronomic tapas routes, they are initiatives organised by the local town hall to promote local businesses and encourage local residents and visitors to visit the town centre to enjoy some of the great restaurants and bars.

This first edition of this new tapas route will be held from the 24th May to the 2nd June and, as the name states, has the novelty of including magic shows as part of the experience (Only at weekends).

Approximately twenty bars and restaurants will take part in the event, each offering their very own and unique tapas dish to all visitors; for the – very reasonable – price of €2, you’ll be able to enjoy a delicious tapa and a refreshment (soft drink, beer or glass of wine).  (more…)

Photos of the ‘Erotic’ Tapas Route in Fuengirola

A couple of weeks ago we wrote about the upcoming ‘Erotic’ Tapas Route in our neighbouring town of Fuengirola. Thousands of people have since visited the 80 bars and restaurants taking part in this fun initiative and have had the chance to sample the imaginative and somewhat riské tapas on offer.

We promised to do some field work and join the Tapas Route to try some of these ‘spicy’ creations and report back on our findings; it was tough work but we managed to make our way through the hoards of people and get some photographic evidence of the tapas we got to taste.

Below you’ll find photos of some of these ‘Erotic’ tapas with their names  (and their rough translations) the name of the bar/restaurant serving them and a brief description of the ingredients used to make them (at least the ones we could work out :-)):

#1 Lengua Sedienta (Dry tongue): The popular ‘La Plaza’ Bar is serving this tapa which is basically your traditional jamon serrano on a piece of toasted bread with olive oil and tomato; the olives and guerkins provide the more erotic touch. Not very adventurous but still tasty and goes down well with a cool beer 🙂

Fuengirola Gets Ready for its 4th ‘Erotic’Tapas Route

4th Erotic Tapas Route in FuengirolaFrom the 1st to the 18th of November 2012, Fuengirola will celebrate the 4th edition of its – now famous – and extremely popular ‘Erotic’  Tapas Route, an original and fun initiative which increases in popularity each year attracting tapas lovers from all over Spain.

This year the town hall expects the participation of 80 of the city’s bars and restaurants, all of which will compete for the coveted prize of best ‘Erotic’ Tapa. Each of these establishments will have to prepare a sensual and fun tapa which clients will be able to try during the 18 days of the event.

Last year’s tapas route saw visitors consume the impressive figure of 260.000 tapas; this year organisers hope to improve on this number. A few of us here in Sunset Beach Club’s Commercial Department will do our best to contribute to this figure as we’re planning an evening out to make our way around the Tapas Route and report on this fun event from the ‘front lines’ 🙂 (more…)

Benalmadena Village Celebrates its Yearly Tapas Route

Ruta de la Tapa de la Abuela Benalmadena Pueblo

More than 20 restaurants and bars in Benalmadena Village will take part in the 4th ‘Ruta de la Tapa de la Abuela’ (Grandma’s Tapas Route) which will take place from the 19th to the 27th October 2012.

This year the popular culinary event will have the novelty of offering visitors a range of traditional Mediterranean stews and soups. (My mouth is watering just thinking about it :-)).

Almost all the bars and restaurants in the town are taking part in this initiative and will compete for one of the three prizes on offer: The best tasting tapa; the one with the best presentation and the one with the most ellaborate preparation.

As is now traditional, visitors to the Tapas Route will get a special ‘passport’ where they can collect stamps from all the establishments they visit along the route. At the end of the week all those who completed their passports will be entered into a prize draw and earn the chance to win some fantastic prizes including: Weekend breaks, hotel nights (including one at Sunset Beach Club :-)), tickets to local theme parks and lots more…

Each tapa is priced at – a very reasonable – €1.50 and includes a beer or glass of wine.

Paella by the pool

Who doesn’t love a traditional Spanish paella? This Summer‘s activity programme includes Spanish cookery classes, one of the most popular of them is the demonstration of how to make a paella. The dish is made the traditional way with classic ingredients, but rather than being stuck indoors on a sunny day during your holiday, our Entertainment team bring the lesson to the poolside! Hotel guests are invited to gather around and watch the class before being invited to taste a tapa and offered a glass of wine to wash it down! We recently snook out of the office to take a look for ourselves and made this quick video to get your mouths watering…Click here to view the video!

Feria de la Tapa at Tivoli

This month Tivoli World Amusement Park in Arroyo de la Miel have been celebrating the wonderful world of tapas! Each weekend offers a different speciality, this weekend is the turn of the “Arroces” which means there will be different rice dishes to be tasted, entrance to the park is free during this event and it is open from 12 – 7pm, with a tapa and drink setting you back just 1.50€. A great way to try some traditional cuisine and keep the kids entertained, especially with sunny skies forecast for the weekend!
